Notable Letters to the Editor

The fact that he hyphenates "gentlemen" is solid proof that he's a loony. The rest of it's really just elaboration on that self-evident truth.

Since Mr Bush's wars began more than 3,500 American Muslims have deployed to the front. At least seven have died.

What is wrong with being more loyal to one's religious community than to one's nation state? Why should we even want anyone to be loyal to any nation state? Loyalty to universal moral principles and benevolence for one's fellow man regardless of affiliation is surely better than limiting loyalty to familiar groups, but why even worry about competing tribalisms?

Only if you keep a goat as a pet.
I was talking about cats.

It would be nice if people who weren't here at the time would stop acting like they know more about the situation than I do.

We had some dude from America (Walt Wawra) cause quite a stir a couple summers ago with this letter:
Where did you find this? I tried, but kept getting Page Not Found on the Calgary Herald website.

He wrote a second letter, in which he was highly indignant that the guys had dared to speak to him at all.

Not an unusual question.
A Muslim's first allegiance is to his fellow Muslim. His Islamic community is the strongest bond he has. Notions of loyalty toward nation states ranks far below even if it registers.
Muslims are also morally permitted to lie and trick non-Muslims. It is called kitman and taqiyya.

inb4 someone calls me racist/islamophobe for stating facts

I remember a similar bogus charge being made that Kennedy should not be allowed to be President because his first allegiance would be to the Pope.

Note: The Ten Commandments prevent all Jews and Christians from lying about other people.

Will homeless people use public restrooms?

There may be an unexpected outcome of our city leaders creating a “tent city” for the homeless at Hot Springs Road.

The city has a public building located a short walk from the proposed site. This building is at the end of STP road and has public restrooms.

The restrooms also have sinks and showers and electrical outlets. They are air-conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. The building is open to the public from 8 am to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What will stop our tent city citizens from using these facilities? The tent city may create an unexpected and undesirable situation for City staff.

What you fail to mention is that kitman and taqiyya are a form of social camouflage used as a defense against persecution, not carte blanche to lie. Taqiyya in particular permits a muslim to publicly renounce Islam under threat without being considered apostate.

And before him it was claimed about Al Smith, the 1928 Democratic candidate, which contributed to his loss to Hoover.

Really convincing arguments.

I never knew that the Islamic community in Britain had identical features to the Irish back in the 19th century. Ahh well, it will all turn out well. Trojan schools must be something else....

It's less that contemporary Muslims and the 19th century Irish were themselves identical, more that the people who objected to their presence- people like yourself- thought in an identical manner. Pretty much every claim you and yours make about Muslims was made about Catholics, Jews or blacks at some point in the past, except possibly the one about them having ray-guns.

Just today we had some...persons... write in about that two-hour execution in California. One suggested that we splatter the criminal's brains with two deer slugs fired simultaneously from a double-barreled shotgun. Another said it was despicable that we allow criminals to breathe, eat, drink, sleep, and watch TV in prison, costing us taxpayer money, when we could be killing them.

Savages.

Not really.
I have completely unique thoughts. You cannot possibly just lump me into "someone said this years ago about some other completely different issue and were proven incorrect, ergo you're wrong" group - this isn't science.

I have no major issues with Sikhs, Hindus and Poles in my country because they don't make many problems.

"Yes, but this ethnoreligious minority really is plotting to destroy us."

If you're still on these forums in 50 years time TF, don't say I didn't warn you.

Please tell me in 50 years when some kid with his own completely unique thoughts is worrying about whatever minority group the right wing establishment is demonizing for votes and party unity that you'll let him know it's all a sham and you learned it the embarrassing way of buying into it yourself.

What does a charlatan say? "This time it is different!"

Funny. Back when I frequented WH, I had it bashed into my head that every time is different and that no lessons can be drawn from the past.

Are you actually serious about this? Like, no Poe's Law going on? :crazyeye:
