One funny, one stupid.

Palin’s aid to Roberts

I don’t really know what U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts has to gain by bringing former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to stump for him. They have so little in common.

She says she can see Russia from her home, and from Roberts’ home, he can see Maryland.

Y'all may not get that little jab about his house, but it's been a big thing in this election. Roberts is being portrayed as someone who isn't a Kansan anymore and only goes back there to campaign for re-election.

Lethal force

One simple question: Why do law enforcement officers shoot to kill? They could aim at the hand where a so-called weapon is held.

Is that the guy who told reporters that he goes back to his home state whenever he has a challenger, and then quickly tried to correct himself to say whenever he has a chance?

From the Kansas City Star;

What is the cause of all our problems these days? Everyone is going broke but the oil companies, lawyers, politicians and bankers.

With all the wars, high gas prices, bankruptcies and crime, we should know our government and lawmakers have a hand in some of the problems. It seems the world needs to focus on a more productive means.

This world needs a good cleaning. We see an honest small farmer who tries to be clean with his products while the big money groups want to poison us and themselves, too.

What can be done when crooks and cults outnumber the good guys? It is so bad these days, it’s hard to tell who is better off, the living or the dead.

Maybe with everyone being this greedy, the Lord should take charge. If all our world leaders can do is take or waste or kill or protect the evil, maybe it’s too late.

Why are we so ill-informed? Don’t let yourself become part of any poison like our lawmakers and world leaders.

Every honest citizen in this world needs other people and this beautiful Earth. Focus on that.

Taqiyya is only a Shiite practice, and only when facing persecution by fellow Muslims since, you know, they used to kill Shiites for being Shiite.

There is some degree of crossovering between Sunni and Shi'a practices. For instance, the traditionally Shi'a practice of Niqa al-mutha, essentially a pimped form of religiously sanctiooned premarital sex, has recently surfaced among Sunni Islamists in Libya and Syria including ISIS.

Ultimately, the differences between Sunni and Shi'a is a matter of succession of the prophet Muhammed - blessed be his name - and differences in practices and other theological topic are less rigidly defined compared to the differenes between the Christian denominations.

First-time voter

As a junior in high school, I will be able to vote in the next election, which I am super excited about.

I think having knowledge of different political views is important so when the election comes around the voter is informed and knows his options.

The sad thing is that some people don’t vote because they haven’t been educated about politics.

As a young person, I am glad I know and understand politics.

So when 2016 comes around, I will know whom I want to vote for and will have the proper knowledge.

I believe that teenagers don’t care what president is taking over because they think it doesn’t affect them.

But they’re wrong.

Even though as teenagers we might not pay bills, we are still affected by the president.

We live in the country the elected officials are running, and our parents are affected by it.

I think everyone who has the right to vote, not just students, needs to understand politics about what’s going on in the world because it does affect everyone.

This is why I can’t wait to vote in 2016.

I really want to applaud this kid for being excited about voting, but sadly he's not as educated as he thinks he is about politics. There are going to be anywhere from four to seven elections between now and the Presidential election in 2016. If all he cares about is the Presidential one, he's kind of missing the point.

I guess he's thinking in terms of major, i.e. state- and federal-level elections? Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I'd guess he's emphasising the presidential election because that does tend to take priority over legislative elections in the public imagination. If there's a complaint to make, it might be better aimed at a political culture that over-emphasises the personality of the executive.

he might not be old enough to vote until the 2016 presidential election anyway. He's a junior, so he is probably 16.

It depends on whether he was born before the cutoff in kindergarden. Due to the fact that some kids turn 5 during the school year, schools just take them in until a certain point before closing doors and telling the other kids turning 5 this year to wait next year. In my area the cutoff date is December 30th, I'm not sure if it differs from place to place.

And for the Islam thing- Yes I am a Muslim and yes that is more important to me than being a US citizen. Why does that have to clash though? There is nothing about the US that is ultimately forcing me to go against my religion, and part of being Muslim is being a good citizen. I mean, the US allows a lot of Haram things, but it doesn't force me to do them. And even if a war with a Muslim state were to happen and I was drafted, theoretically, I would have a religious basis that allows me to serve and protect my country- Allah does allow one to defend their home against other Muslims, and the US is my home. I don't know if considering the US to be my home and worth defending is enough patriotic sentiment to be a citizen, but it is the truth.

What the hell is it with guys shooting Presidents to impress women?

With the exception of the conspirators who attacked Lincoln, Seward, et al., and maybe Truman's attackers, a lot of American assassins and would-be assassins of Presidents have been more motivated by their own insanity than by political causes.
