I am sure everyone has heard of one in their lifetime from their mother.

My personal favourite is this: Don't forget to eat the crust of the bread, since you will get curly hair.

That actually made me fearful of eating the crust, since I did not want to get curly hair. But thankfully it is not true so now I do eat t he crust of the bread.

As a child I was told if I were to go into a forest, I would be kidnapped, raped repeatedly, and then murdered.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Chicken soup can cure the common cold.

Tap the top of soda before opening it, so it won't explode.

Heard that from my sister, never got it.

Works for me. Whenever I get a pop from a pop machine or shake a pop and tap both sides a few times it doesn't explode. When I don't it does, so....?
You're probably using paranormal powers you didn't know you had, cuz for everyone else it fails miserably. :mischief:

As for me, one of my sisters liked to tell me that at the end of the world, God will take a giant chainsaw and cut the world in half.

Scared the crap out of me each time. :p

One day, I had the cold pretty bad. Mom gave me some chicken noodle soup, and I ate some. Few minutes later and I'm vomiting all over the bathroom.

My personal favourite is that eating carrots give you better night vision.

Mainly for its origin as the British government explanation as to why they could detect German aircraft.

Don't swim 30 minutes after eating.

Gum takes seven years to digest.

Shaved hair comes back thicker.

Vaccines cause Autism.

Vaccines cause Autism.

This one has yet to be completely debunked. It's generally not unreasonable to think that there might be a link between brain damage and a vaccine containing a heavy metal known to cause brain damage.

There was never anything to debunk. There were forged studies by a person looking to profit financially and random people who know nothing about what they were saying.

There is absolutely no reason to think there is a link between autism and vaccines.

As for Thiomersal, every body that has studied it concluded there was no link with autism. Even if there were, it is in such small quantities as part of vaccines and the mercury most is removed from the body within a month. Even the studies that led to its removal from most vaccines were based on methylmercury, a more dangerous compound than the ethylmercury that Thiomersal breaks down into.

Store batteries in the refrigerator so they'll last longer.

I think there's intriguing possibilities that vaccines cause people to believe vaccines cause Autism then.
