No worries. My kid had an accident on the playground (dislocated her elbow; Nursemaid's Elbow), so I had to leave work before I had a chance to post. She's fine now.

Just a reminder... I'll be out of town from 24.8 to 5.9. I'll probably have Internet access for at least some of this period, but may not be able to play and/or post. I'll let you know if I can play when (and if) my turns come up.

how bout that!! LobsterBOY has a LobsterKin ~ maybe it was teh "boy" or "immature crustacean" but i thought you were a younger fella ~ htough i guess i never thought you were a lobster ;)

Despite my advanced years, my demeanor still leans toward the juvenile - just ask my wife! :p

I played 12 turns, 10 for Lobsterboy, 2 for me.

Lobster's 9th Turn (1878 AD)
Albert Einstein (Great Scientist) born in Athens <-- He goes to to sleep a 2nd time.
Thermopylae finishes: Cavalry
Hamburg finishes: Cannon
GreyFoxTown finishes: Rifleman

Lobster's 10th Turn, my inherited (1879 AD)
Thermopylae begins: Cavalry
Hamburg begins: Cannon
GreyFoxTown begins: Rifleman
Athens finishes: Cannon
Tiflis's borders expand
Frankfurt finishes: Grenadier
Cologne finishes: Rifleman
Texcoco's borders expand

Turn 1 (1880 AD)
Athens begins: Cavalry
Frankfurt begins: Taoist Monastery
Cologne begins: Cavalry
Grenadier promoted: Pinch
Rifleman promoted: Pinch

IBT:Tokugawa didn't come seeking peace this time. Do I appear weaker than Lobsterboy? Harrump! I move some units out of Berlin to get them into position to take a peak at Satsuma next turn.

Napoleon didn't demand we change to Representation. Without the diplomatic bonus, I don't see any reason to go that way now.

Tokugawa pillages fishing boats off the coast near Old Sari. That city is starving big time now. I start whipping there.

Turn 2 (1881 AD) Ratz, I messed up my log. Let's see if I can remember. Corporation comes in (improving our deficit by about 12 gold per turn) and I start Assembly Line (10 turns). Corinth finished a Canon and I start a Bank there.

Here are the defenses at Satsuma.
angry22.jpg

It's takeable with all our canon but I'm not certain it's going to be worth the cost. I'd likely raze it because it's going to be under cultural pressure from Orleans and Tokyo. But Tokugawa won't give me much for peace so I decide to take Satsuma from him and see if he sweetens the deal.
Thermopylae finishes: Cavalry
Harappan finishes: Cavalry
Old Sarai finishes: Harbor
Tabriz finishes: Islamic Monastery
Dortmund finishes: Cavalry
Essen's borders expand

IBT:
Islam has spread: Calixtlahuaca
While defending, Rifleman defeats (5.60/14): Japanese Artillery

Turn 3 (1882 AD)
Thermopylae begins: Cavalry
Harappan begins: Rifleman
Old Sarai begins: Granary
Dortmund begins: Rifleman
Hamburg begins: Wall Street <-- I reassign citizens and lay off a scientist to work more hammers. Wall St. in (gulp) 41 turns.

The bombardment of Satsuma begins.
Rifleman promoted: City Garrison I <-- thinking ahead ;)

Sparta finishes: Cavalry
Karakorum finishes: Cavalry
Turfan finishes: Cavalry
Old Sarai finishes: Granary
Calixtlahuaca's borders expand

IBT:
Outside of Essen, a Cavalry rushing to the front is attacked:
While defending, Cavalry defeats (3.60/15): Japanese Rifleman

Turn 4 (1883 AD)
Sparta begins: Rifleman
Karakorum begins: Rifleman
Turfan begins: Rifleman
Old Sarai begins: Drydock
Cavalry promoted: Flanking I
Cavalry promoted: Flanking II
Cavalry promoted: Combat I
Cavalry promoted: Combat I
Cavalry promoted: Flanking I

IBT: On the road between Berlin and Satsuma, an artillery attacks a grenadier escorting two canon and withdraws.
Napolean asks for Open Borders. I concede and our relations improve to cautious.

Turn 5 (1884 AD)
Munich begins: Theatre
Grenadier promoted: Pinch
A cavalry outside of Satsuma finishes off that artillery that attacked IBT.

Messed up the log again. Thermopylae finished a Cavalry and started a rifleman. I started a few more riflemen in other cities too to start building up garrisons on our west coast.

The battle for Satsuma begins. I have a fantastic selection of units with which to play -- thanks guys!
While attacking, Cannon loses to: Japanese SAM Infantry (9.36/18) I started with our best cannon (CR III). He done good but died at 11% odds. That SAM was a Combat I, Garrison II. He'll be toast soon.
While attacking, Cannon loses to: Japanese SAM Infantry (13.86/18) A CRII cannon doesn't fare as well, but that SAM had Combat II and Charge (bonus against siege weapons) -- NO FAIR!!
While attacking, Cannon loses to: Japanese Rifleman (9.24/14) A CR I, Drill I cannon. Bad idea.
While attacking, Grenadier defeats (7.68/12): Japanese SAM Infantry This Grenny had Combat II, Pinch and City Raider II. 89% odds.
While attacking, Cannon defeats (2.40/12): Japanese Rifleman I decide the remaining Riflemen need a bit more softening.
While attacking, Grenadier defeats (12.00/12): Japanese SAM Infantry Heracles, you go!
Now I'm just gonna pick the best opportunities for promotions.
While attacking, Rifleman defeats (9.24/14): Japanese Rifleman 96.9% odds.
While attacking, Grenadier defeats (8.16/12): Japanese Rifleman 99.1% odds.
While attacking, Cannon defeats (10.0/12): Japanese Rifleman
We take Satsuma. It doesn't look that bad afterall and does wonders for Berlin's borders. In fact, I decide to keep it.
That SAM Infantry outside of Berlin is bothersome. I'd rather not lose the iron mine, so first, I throw a Flanking II Cavalry at him and it withdraws successfully. That leaves 92% odds for a Pinch Grenadier.
While attacking, Grenadier defeats (9.60/12): Japanese SAM Infantry

Well, that was easy. So, do I go after Tokyo next? It'll be another 10 turns of war weariness. Toku will give me 400 gold (no techs) for peace. I grab it. That gives us Assembly line in 5+ turns.
Grenadier promoted: City Garrison I

Thermopylae grows: 12
Beshbalik finishes: Rifleman
Tabriz finishes: University
Munich's borders expand

Turn 6 (1886 AD)
Beshbalik begins: Jail
Tabriz begins: Forge
Cannon promoted: City Raider III
Rifleman promoted: City Garrison I
Grenadier promoted: Combat II
Rifleman promoted: Formation

I load almost all our assault troops into Satsuma to stave off rioting. We won't know for another 10 turns whether or not they'll be enough.
Thermopylae finishes: Rifleman
Beshbalik grows: 15
Cologne grows: 11
GreyFoxTown finishes: Rifleman
Calixtlahuaca finishes: Cavalry
Texcoco grows: 5

IBT:
Taoism has spread: Cologne

Turn 7 (1887 AD)
Thermopylae begins: West Point
GreyFoxTown begins: Grocer
Calixtlahuaca begins: Market
Rifleman promoted: City Garrison I
Harappan finishes: Rifleman
Frankfurt finishes: Taoist Monastery
Dortmund finishes: Rifleman
Calixtlahuaca grows: 14

IBT:
Buddhism has spread: Tokyo (Japanese Empire)
Buddhism has spread: Tokyo (French Empire)

Turn 8 (1888 AD)
Harappan begins: Bank
Frankfurt begins: Rifleman
Dortmund begins: Rifleman
Tiflis grows: 5
Essen finishes: Library

IBT:
Islam has spread: Turfan

Turn 9 (1889 AD)
Essen begins: Buddhist Temple
Rifleman promoted: City Garrison I
Rifleman promoted: City Garrison I
Tech learned: Assembly Line
Berlin's borders expand
Cologne finishes: Cavalry
GreyFoxTown grows: 11

IBT:
Taoism has spread: Athens

Turn 10 (1890 AD)
Research begun: Democracy <-- no beakers in this yet, so change it if you want. I figure our next war will go easier without the whining about Emancipation.
Cologne begins: Factory <-- the first of many. BUILD 'EM! BUILD 'EM! BUILD 'EM!

That's it. Our workers are out of work to do. I've been building roads on mined hills to speed up railroad building for the past few turns. We'll need to start resting them soon.

Check this out:
angry23.jpg

Did we spank Tokugawa or what? Who says GreyFox is a builder? But Mao can spank us. I suspect the threat from Napolean is over. I'd like to kick his butt for all those demands.

The save is here. I zipped it to preserve the name. The forum's new uploading process renames the uploads.

Great going Frank! I'm thinking that we should really just follow my plan (shameless plug) and wipe out all of Japan. Mao seems to be the only threat and he loves us (or at least he did).

Noticed this oddity in the report though:
IBT:
Buddhism has spread: Tokyo (Japanese Empire)
Buddhism has spread: Tokyo (French Empire)

Strange, Tokyo is Japanese AND French??

I'm gonna try and start the attack once peace is done. I may even preempt west point to build a factory real fast ~

Switching out a factory makes sense. We've got plenty of veteran troops so West Point can probably wait.

I forgot to mention, we have some decent garrisons on our west coast now. It'll help me sleep tonight.

Yeah, that is wierd about Tokyo. It's fully Japanese right now. Just before I shut down the game, I noticed the land around Satsuma had been thoroughly pillaged and I swear I didn't do it. There were French cavalry hanging around so France is at war with Japan, evidently. We might be able to benefit greatly from that.

oooooo....that's help ME sleep tonight then! i'd play now, but a few beers might impair my already impaired judgement.

okay, i'm playing now ~

also, Frank Hawk, P.I., we need you for the Case of the Immortal Dangaer ;) ;) nudge, nudge, know what I mean, squak, squak, HOWLLLLLLLLLLLLL, bagawk, bagawk, oooooowwwwwoooooooogaaaaa, hubba-hubba, eh?

:crazyeye:

Well, there wasn't much to do while I waited for the peace treaty to expire. I started up Factories *mostly* all around, w/the exception with our crummy cities.

Early on, I took OB with Japan to scout out our new...er his lands. Notice, too, that Tokyo is gone:

Here's Kagoshima:

Osaka:
osakacd5.jpg

Kyoto:
kyotojk4.jpg

I also at the same time wanted to see what Napoleon had in his cities, but since there's the 12 pic limit, and I'll put everything in the next post. Let's just say he's ready for war ~ good thing he's taking on Japan....for now. Nappy also wanted to deal:
napdealnovs1.jpg

but i declined, not wanting to give him any more better units than he has now (which is Machine Guns).

JC came around, too:
jcswarxu0.jpg

I seriously, seriously considered it, but didn't want to do it w/o the group's input. It may be pretty phony, but we may also be able to capture a city or 2.

Anyway, i noticed this:
osakataken1896sk6.jpg

We need to get moving if there's gonna be anything left of Japan. So as soon as I'm able, i delcare war and move in towards Kagoshima.

I bombard the defenses all in one shot, with 3 canons left over. I suicided 2 cats, and the third one w/draws. Next, I sent in Flank II Cav against the SAM but he bites the dust. After that, though, the Grens were able to mop up.

The bulk of our armies are now on their way north to Kyoto, hoping to take it before France does. Recon photos of France (and a bit of China) plus the save to follow.

So, our Cavalry made a large loop around France and China.

Orleans:

Paris:

and, look, i found Tokyo!
tokyoej2.jpg

And so, that was it. I was just thinking now that we should let France try to use up some of its army getting at Kyoto. Perhaps we could walk in after that.

The bottomline is that China is WAY out in front tech-wise, and our only real hope is probably Domination. We're only at 40% now, so perhaps w/Japan, France, Azteca and (possibly) Rome, we'll be alright, but we've only got 150 turns left!

So who's up now?

Got it, but don't know if I can find time to play in 24hrs ... But most likely tomorrow night.

Nice turns, ph0lk ... don't expect too much whipping ... war is enough action for me.

I agree Mao is untouchable. 150 turns is more than enough ... even at 5 turns per city, we would have gotten 30 more cities by then, definitely more than enough to dominate! :cooool:

I would have declare on Monty Our stack in sleeping in that Jewish Holy city rotting away ...

I see someone researched Democracy ... why? Emancipation??? That's is not a real problem ... I would have go for Communism (if we still haven't gotten around to that).

--

i think frank did that. I let it finish and sent us on our way to Combustion and then for Ind. Of course, Communism is a must at some point, too.

I really deliberated about Monty, but in the end, said no in the interest of discussing it with the group. Of course, the next player can just get that started *hint, hint* ;)

Good turns fellas! Way to kick Toku's ass!

We ought to consider war with France. Ultimately, we may need both Nappy's and Monty's territory for the Dom. victory, and if we can catch Nappy's offensive forces out in the open while he is attacking Japan, we may be able to cripple him significantly. How are his relations with China? Will they join us in a war vs. France?

OK, apparently, due to some guest visiting here, I came back too late, too filled with alcohol to do any war last night ... (I am afterall not Munterpipe )

Sorry for holding this up, I could play tonight though. However, in the interest of progressing this game, please skip me if Lobster is available.
