Also, smileys and emoticons are not punctuation marks. ;)

As a manager I learned that I could get away with being hard on people in terms of workload and pressure as long as I didn't screw with three things.
1. their money
2. their time
3. their space.

Once you did one of those you take the risk of losing them so I have made an effort to never do it.

My boss texted me while I was on vacation to inform me that the company I work for is reneging on an increase to my PTO benefits that I negotiated months ago. Also, I went in negative on my PTO by 2 days for this vacation thanks to them reneging on the deal and they're mad at me for that too. I swear, retention is a four-letter word with these guys. I'm pissed at my boss for dumping this on me too. I have a job that has aspects that no one else in my company can do so I'm obligated to monitor my email and texts periodically to help with emergencies and he took advantage of that to vent. He really felt bad about how this all went down and he was reaching out to me to comfort him as much as he was trying to let me know what happened while I was away. He's a good manager but stuff like this pisses me off and he feeds into my anger with the situation by always playing it up in scenarios like this. Sometimes I feel like he's trying to set me up to do something big and dramatic because he's deeply unhappy too and me doing something big and dramatic might make things better for everyone or something daft like that.
He's hoping you'll blow up so he doesn't have to, maybe? And if it doesn't work, he won't have to take any blame.

Ouch, that really sucks. Were you able to get anywhere with your search for other places?

Liking a rant feels odd when the rant is about not so good things. :(

If what you negotiated several months ago has already been implemented and you have actually earned some of those improved benefits and then they take them away unilaterally, that could be a labor law issue. Especially if they they ding you for vacation days you earned under the new plan that they stopped.

If he's going to get like that I suggest that you implement a policy like mine and don't answer out of hours, if you can get away with it.

Agree with this, you can consider having two sim card or phone, one is for professional purpose while the other for family and friends, during off just silent the professional one. My big sister do exactly that, if not she will got no life. You work in a big and well established company, you may protect yourself behind the system, while working in a startup, family based corporation or developing company might be completely different, turning off your phone during off might be a problem.

sleeping only two hour today, yet here I am in my room typing on my phone and not feel sleepy at all. Man I'm so tired being like this

Being on the phone probably isn't helping your no sleep problem. The light and the mental stimulation are signals to your brain to keep you awake.

thank you Ben, but I give up, I'm up for another Yakuza game

Rant: I let my emails pile up the last few months and now I have nearly a hundred to sort through. :ack:

Have I mentioned how much I hate high humidity? Currently 100% humidity and it is going to stay high the rest of the week. I had to go out and buy a second portable fan and now with three going (my two fans and the ceiling mounted one) it is barely tolerable when the outside temp is only 67F.

Hmmm...If you covered your floor with kitty litter, would it absorb all that moisture our of the air?

For about 5 mins, then you'll have a floor covered in wet kitty litter and high humidity.

And then your cat might decide to pee on the floor.

A portable dehumidifier would be useful in this situation. I don't think they cost all that much.
