Random Rants 80: Computer Says No

I have to take a long road trip and I wanted a specific car which has android auto integrated in it so I can use my phone for navigation and audiobooks. The local car rental didn't have that particular car so I went to one much farther away that the website said had the cars on their lot. Except they didn't. I know the rental forms say "X car or a similar one" so they didn't technically lie to me but their website said they had one at this further-away location and not at the closer one. All they had was a really beat up Toyota (Toyota being the only brand that doesn't include Android auto in any of their cars) with the check engine light on.

And my face really is starting to hurt from the sinus infection.

Last week I was down with a gastritis, now I have a throat infection.
At least I am unemployed and not missing anything really at work due to that (although kinda, have 2 meetings tomorrow).
I also had planned to accidentally run into 2 girls after their Zumba class tonight, bc I want to adk one of them out. Clearly will not work like this. Recent intel also tells me that I will prob not see her otherwise until the end of the month.
:gripe:

I'm trying to decide who to vote for in the next federal election and I'm sad to see all the candidates pretty much just bashing each other.

All the choices are pretty sub-par, but promise-breaking and in-party-corruption seems to be the better option. In a "Let's minimize damage" kind of way. The alternatives thus far seem to be weird neoliberalism (Greens), our resident yeehawdists (CPC), and then the "I'll be whatever the other ones aren't" party (NDP).

I wish there was an option to vote "all these options suck."

You can do that by going to the polling station, checking in, and officially declining your ballot. This is not the same as spoiling it. Declining it means you've told Elections Canada (and the parties by extension, when their analysts dissect each riding's polling districts to see where their support is strongest and weakest) that you didn't consider any of the candidates/parties to be acceptable.

All spoiling your ballot means is that the Deputy Returning Officer will look at the ballot (during the counting, which is done by hand), mutter something like "another one who can't follow simple instructions to mark an X next to their candidate" and have the Poll Clerk record it as spoiled, put it in the envelope with the other spoiled ballots, and move on to the next ballot. Spoiled ballots don't tell anyone why it was spoiled. Sometimes people don't use an X, sometimes they cross out the other candidates' names, sometimes they circle the names... those are all reasons that ballots get rejected.

I'm going to make a thread for our election - meant to do that days ago, but got busy. I can copy/paste these posts, if there's no objection, so we can keep the conversation in one place instead of scattering it.

That's a good idea.

Rant: I spilled ice cream on myself after already taking a shower today. :( Now I have to wash myself again.

Rant: I just got about 10 emails from Steam about "here's the code to change your Steam password!" when I didn't try to change it.

It's probably just some dumb scammer, but I changed my Steam and email password to be on the safe side.

There is only one clear option: Vote for the party that will keep the Conservatives out of power at all costs. Since the Greens and NDP don't have a chance, the only logical choice is voting Liberal. I think we're pretty much assured of a minority government at this point though.

On the subject of illness, guess who came down with a nasty case of tonsillitis!
At least insurance covered all the drugs* and I have lots of PTO to take tomorrow off. Unfortunately, apart from my throat I feel completely fine and if I had brought my work laptop with me I could have worked remotely.

*My work has pretty good insurance because when the government regulators last reviewed my work (about a decade ago) they had some concerns about the level of staff turnover affecting our ability to do our jobs, so work really upped the quality of the benefits.

Squidward was his perfect embodiment and always will be!

Illness day 4: draining day

The hit sequel nobody asked for to Training Day!

Just pretend you look like your current avatar, which is adorable. ;)

It's so bad. :(

I asked for 2.5 inches off and layering. I got 4+ inches off and a buzz below the ear. Normally I would have stopped them right away to correct the mistake, but the lady immediately went for the clipper and took a too-long chunk out of my hair, so it was too late. Better to just let the disaster finish.

My head looks like I hired a landscaper instead of a hairdresser. Just so abjectly terrible. I'm the victim of a crime. I am a danger to the public now.
