One of the neighbours threw all our laundry out of the dryer while it was still wet so they could use it.

Oh man that is an offense equivalent to second degree murder! Oooh did they also leave you a passive aggressive note telling you that you are a bad person as well? Laundry-dumping and note-posting seem to go hand in hand.
lmao x-post

This is a good and fun article that everyone should read (by the wisest and most responsible of our thinkers, transhumanists).

aeon is a pretty good site

But aeon flux is a pretty crappy movie.

CanCon regulation strikes again!

I’ll have to see if I can view anything from PBS, not that Masterpiece Theatre is my bag.

Antiques Roadshow, however...
I don't think it's CanCon rules that are the problem. There are lots of American channels that have their online content geoblocked. Since a lot of this stuff isn't shown in Canada anyway, I don't see why Canadian content rules would apply.

It makes no sense. It wasn't until people kicked up a fuss that they decided to let us watch The Handmaid's Tale. It was insane - a series based on a novel by a Canadian author, shot in Toronto, employed many Canadian actors and technicians, taking advantage of Canadian tax breaks.. and not viewable by Canadians. They finally relented, but we have a significant amount of lag time after the episodes are shown to Americans.

I'm into the science documentaries and some of the historical dramas. The pizza restaurant I use has become accustomed to my weekly "Downton Abbey and pizza" nights every Friday. :yummy:

I've also acquired the "Saturday Cinema" habit (since the movie comes on after my Britcoms).

It depends on if the cycle is finished or not. If it is and the clothing is still there and there's no sign of the owner coming to put it in the dryer, it's fair game in my books. I have to share with 19 other suites and there are only two machines of each kind. Since my housekeeping helper is the one who does the laundry, there' no time to wait until the owner saunters in to finish up.

Of course if the washing cycle isn't up, we wait until it is, and hopefully the owner turns up on time. It's really not that hard to set an alarm to check on the clothes and get them done on time.

See, this is one of the things that makes me miss prison. No one in prison would do that because it is a legitimate killing offense. Prison is the only place I've ever been where common courtesy is actually common...because it is enforced.
Are pizza-bringing girlfriends allowed?

The new Humble Monthly program, now called Humble Choice, is twice the price of the old program.

New and improved!

Have you considered: murder?

No nasty notes. But the floor was dirty. So the still-slightly-wet clothes got dirty again and had to be rewashed. [pissed]

Once upon a time, I contemplated perhaps advocating a return to dueling. My thinking was this would bring about a more courteous society if a person he could face death for being a jerk. :sniper:

The only thing that makes Southern Californians use their turn signals is a good freeway sniper.

Subway added Beyond Meat meatballs. Figured I'd try it out.

Not good, chief.
Really? One would think Beyond Meat would be good in meatballs, given the focus the company has placed on burgers, as meatballs are basically burgers with stuff in them.

Nah, the result would simply be the jerks get really at dueling and beating the people who are non-jerks, as the non-jerks don't have enough practice to become good at dueling.

how did you like their burger? I thought it was pretty decent.

it doesn't at all lend itself to a certain thickness. the patties have to be really thin and crispy to work. with mince meat it really works if it's only cooked inside, not had any surface contact. . the proteins get very solid, still. with the beyond meat they don't solidify as much and the texture is a lot more mushy than meaty, which makes sense given they're basically pea protein mush.

even raw beef, aka tartare/mett/yukhoe/carpaccio is pretty delish, but raw beyond meat would just be a paste.

I've never been able to try the burger. It's always sold out. :(

I have tried their sausage patty. It's okay, but there's something in it that gives me a histamine response. I think this may be a restaurant thing and not a Beyond Meat thing, though, since I didn't get the histamine response from the meatballs and as far as I can tell the ingredients are very nearly identical (the meatballs have different oil and different protein from mung beans [whereas the sausage gets protein from faba beans]).

The meatballs themselves aren't terrible, they're just half the size of normal meatballs and taste like the normal meatballs Subway normally stocks. And their normal meatballs are mediocre at best. So you get about half the meatballs, for the same taste, for almost $3 more. I guess it's a neat gimmick and useful for vegetarians. But if you're just fine with the normal meatballs, you might as well just stick with the normal meatballs.

Although, if I'm being honest, no one should willingly choose to get the meatball sub from Subway...

Ding ding ding ding ding...

We have a winner!!!!

If I were to take it into my head to rate all the subs on the menu at Subway I'm not sure what I would put at the top, but without doubt I would put the meatball sub at the bottom.
