Random Rants LXIV: Who's Acting Like a Child Now?

Guess who has two thumbs and got fired?

To be honest, I saw it coming, because I honestly was just not good at that job at all. It was a targeted sales position, and I kept missing targets during probation, so... Yeah. Not the best outcome, but not exactly a surprise. They didn't tell me until almost the end of the day yesterday, which seems like a cruel trick to play on a guy, but I guess it's the sort of thing they get to when they get to.

Sucks, but I'm lucky enough that I don't have a lot of fixed outgoings. Tighten my belt, dip into the savings if I need to, hope I find something else soon.

The job itself was actually pretty good, if you set aside the work itself. Nice place, nice people, even the company seemed... Not aggressively unethical? Which is a low bar, but I used to work for Wal-Mart, so, y'know. Just the actual sales bit, not something I have the right temperament for at all.

A mosquito lurks in my room.

Yesterday it occured to me that I haven't yet seen a mosquite this year.
This morning I noticed seve bites, one of them on my face.

It works best if it's something you're not too interested in.

Flute/harp music works for me. So does Arthur C. Clarke reading his own stories. He wrote good stories, but his reading voice was a monotone. Only once did I stay awake until the end of the story.

Big thanks! I'm a fan of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's work and this seems similar.

It must have gone through the tubes with my post. I saw it escape one last time before my rant, and no bites.

Halfway through my Queensland trip and I already know I dont want to be on a trip with the guy I am doing the trip with ever again. It has been a great experience so far, but its greatness is completely unrelated to his presence. I can imagine his having a similar opinion on myself.

Y'all know it's a dream, and not a vision of the future or a time loop, right ?

Four more mosquito bites.

Recently been getting some mosquito bites too. Itchy. From now on I'll be sure to smear on some carcinogenic toxins before spending time outside to keep those little feckers at bay.

I thought he was cute :(

After India, it takes a lot of mosquito bites to bother me. Anyways, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to retire my broken down laptop, and now I need to replace it but I haven't the faintest idea on where to start. I do know I want something affordable, something that can run the programs that engineers in college are expected to run, and can play the games I want to play - the most recent being civ5, but this isn't exactly helpful.

I've reached a point in my game of Caveman 2 Cosmos where the game crashes at the exact same spot and I can't get any further.

Hopefully I'm not in a place where I'd need to evacuate via stairs.
How can you go down the stairs while trying not to go down the stairs? Sounds to me as if that were why and how you would fall.

You can always look at whatever the most recent Lenovo Thinkpad is. I got the T420 about 5 years ago and it still works fine. It could run Civ5 and Skyrim with an acceptable framerate and was basically bulletproof. The only reason I'm not still using it was that I got a new desktop as a graduation gift.
