The word "awesomesauce" existed long before you thought of it.

D'oh. I'm silly.

No, you cannot buy and posess alcohol if you're under 21, but you are allowed to drink it. The first part pretty much means that its only legal as long as your guardians give it to you at home though. Still, its an important distinction.

The legality of that depends on the region. Some outright ban drinking for minors.

They can't enforce it though :p my cousins (17 and 18) drink wine at dinners often

No, its still not legal. Theoretically parents can be charged for providing minors with alcohol, especially if they allow a party with underage drinking to occur.

Obviously it happens all the time.

As Bill3000 said, it varies by state:

So where I live, it's perfectly legal to drink underage, but not possess or buy.

If they're providing other minors outside of their own children with alcohol, they're doing it wrong. That is illegal. What I meant is at your permanent residence, your parents provide you and only you ( and maybe any siblings you have) with alcohol, in a moderated amount. This is legal in most states, and essentially unenforceable in the rest.

Or get a friend whose 21 to buy it for you. Thats also pretty much unenforceable. I have a friend who pays his way through college doing this. He buys alcohol for underage people, and charges them for it. Makes a nice profit.

Ah nothing like black market capitalism at work.

Yeah, pretty much the only way you get in trouble for this is if a party gets busted and the college/police trace back the alcohol to its source.

My Polish flatmate never stops talking. He's a good guy but I sat through like an hour and a bit of straight talking from him just there. Theres no escape. I'm too polite.

Its usually interesting enough chat and he is a nice guy. But he needs to master the art of letting others have a word now and then.
