I just received an email from the University of Glasgow, if my matriculation exams go well I'll be able to go there study politics. Funky. Didn't expect any kind of activity from there before January - March.

So my current academic adviser is a professor of applied mechanics at UVa. I had a meeting with him to talk about the schedule for my next semester and stuff. As we are going over the classes I can take next semester, I keep saying that I've placed out of that course. He becomes interested in my transfer credit report and he's really surprised at how many credits I have (six years worth of chemistry, physics, and calculus collectively). So we iron out a rough plan for next semester, and at the end, he asks me if I have any questions. I ask if he could recommend any summer internships or stuff of that nature. Being the professor of applied mechanics, he whips out an oversized poster board of research he did a few years ago about synthetic heart tissue or something, and said that he was looking for 'bright, motivated students with high GPAs' to work with him in his research. He then says that I would be a great candidate to work for him, and also saying that my chemical engineering professor is another big researcher, and also looking for undergrad interns.

tl;dr a professor pretty much offered me a chance to intern for him.
