Finally some $%#*ing good news!
So I have an interview with a company for a co-op next week. With a co-op, I'd push my graduation back by a year. The company also doesn't pay great (it pays good, but not as well as most others) and to be honest, I wasn't thrilled with the kind of work they do.
I am in line for a promotion on the satellite team (a big promotion) but a co-op would effectively rule that out. I love sat team, but making money would be nice and the experience of a co-op would give me a leg up after graduation. Then again, it could lock me into the kind of jobs I don't want to do while the sat team keeps me more on track with my professional goals.
So it's a mixed bag - complicated by the fact that the co-op is near here so I could still see my wife on weekends and I could stay with my grandmother so my living expenses would be ~$0 (big deal as interns/co-ops usually struggle to break even when they have to pay for two apartments and living expenses).
But I just got offered a work study opportunity which means I would get paid to do the work I'm already doing for the sat team. It would also be full time over the summer and part time during the year, which means I can get paid for my work and also not miss out on graduation. The pay isn't as good as the co-op, but I'll have a job title and I'll also get the promotion I'm in line for.
Which means all in all it's a great compromise and I'm going to take it!
I'm still doing the interview for the co-op and I'll keep an open mind, but so long as school funding holds out then I'll most likely take work study. Win-win really
There's also still some open applications out there for jobs I really do want so we'll have to see but for now I'm ecstatic!
