Random Thoughts 2: Arbitrary Speculations

I have a hard time saying no when people ask/invite me for something and I don't want to go. I don't mind helping out when there's work to be done but going to the movies and stuff no just leave me alone please. Ugh. BTW not sure how to say that without sounding like a douche.

Seletcion bias.
The 80's stuff that's still around and searchable has endured because it's the best the 80's had to offer. The decade looks pretty good now because time has filtered out all the GARBAGE TRASH. In time people wiil wistfully look the to the very, very few good things that were created in the 2010's.
Right? I had a friend trying to tell me that the 60s/70s was this epic time in music and I could just check out the oldies station for proof. I was like, dude, they are only playing the hits from those decades. There was a ton of garbage you've never heard of that died in obscurity, just as with any decade.

Practice makes perfect. It gets easier the more you do it. The one unpleasant side effect is that if you do it enough eventually people will stop asking you altogether.

Leave me alone Hobbs I don't want to hang out with you anymore your hands are too small and you smell like cabbage!

How was that, too aggressive?

I've had some good results by just being honest and upfront, and telling people that I don't really enjoy that kind of activity (or at least not all the time). "To be honest, I don't really enjoy going to the movies." isn't even hard, and people didn't seem to take it personally at all when I made it clear that it's about the activity, and not about them. Of course I don't know what they told each other when I'm not there, but I never felt like I was treated worse because of it, even when I did it in my old work environment.

The offtopic-discussion in the "Comings and Goings"-thread made me wonder how hard it would be to control ones writing style enough so people don't realize it's you posting on an alternative account. Let's assume you were a poster on another forum that has a 1-account-per-person-policy that you've been having conversations and discussions on for a while - changing ones habits on how one uses punctuation would probably not be too difficult, that is, as long as one pays attention to it instead of just typing brainlessly. But there are other things, such as consistent spelling errors or grammar errors that would probably give ones identity away, although the former can of course mostly be avoided by using the spellchecking function.

Furthermore, I wonder if a person who were to attempt such a thing, would be better off trying to "dumb down" their posts to have more room for error, or whether they should try their best to write in a way that seems educated. The former seems like it could easily become a "slang" that is easy to attribute to a person, the latter would probably add a high risk of falling back to ones natural language patterns.

As a non-native speaker, I would of course have an additional handicap, because my vocabulary is still rather limited.

Overall, it seems like it would require a lot of attention to detail to seem like "someone else" to a person with a keen eye, although it is questionable whether these minor details would add up to a solid case against a person.

Language style is a big giveaway, but those who are inclined to have a DL tend to make them because they don't want to let a subject go. Even if they change how they speak, they still get found out because they've joined explicitly to talk about a hot-button issue that someone else was coincidentally banned from discussing again.

I'm not that guy who just got banned for calling you an A-hole. I'm a brand new guy who has never been here before, and you are an A-hole.

Yeah, I can see how that wouldn't work.

True, that's an additional problem. Plus, even ones opinions on the topic one chooses to engage in would probably be a big hint at ones identity.

Although, if one were to do it "Just because I can!", one could probably pretend to have a different set of opinions, and engage in topics selectively with the very goal of hiding ones identity. But then on the other hand, one might tend to strawman these positions too much and end up being discovered because of that.

I think you'd need to have some really strange style for anyone to notice that.
I'd not be able to figure out who's who just by their writing style.
For some people only in which topics they engage in, and what positions they hold, but their writing style...no, not at all.

And Synsensa had the mod's point of view on it already.

Walking into Rock Creek Park, take out headphones once I've gotten far enough in there's no car noise, and lighting one :D

I'm pretty sure it's a review scam. People buy stuff at fake addresses so they can leave verified reviews. Amazon says this isn't true, that they know how to detect those, but I don't really see how. If they have your
name and address the method of payment doesn't have to have that info or match.

Yep, that's exactly what happened. I looked up the products I received and found reviews posted by an account using my real name.

Do you know offhand if anything bad typically happens to people compromised in such a manner? Obviously my real name and address have been linked and are out there making the rounds, but I'm not sure of the consequences besides that.

Did you have the reviews removed?

As far as things happening... you're already a victim of identity theft. Someone else putting your name on reviews you didn't write is a form of identify theft, and you should try to get them removed.

I've put a few reviews on Amazon, but never with my real name. Any review on that site that does use my real name is either one of my namesakes, or someone using my name fraudulently. Since I've never had anything show up that I didn't order (other than when Walmart has given me the odd free sample included with an order), I'm safe. So far.

Sure, I'll try to get them removed. Failing that, I'll give them a one-star review and comment with a link under each review taken out in my name. Actually, I'm going to leave one-star reviews regardless, because all the reviews were written recently with the same bad English and are probably under the names of other people who had the same thing happen.

From what I have seen, this is the most harmless kind of scam there is for the victim - they probably got the address info from some unscrupulous seller, but don't have CC numbers, my SSN, or anything like that. But even if they do - luckily (???) I trashed my credit score last year by maxing out credit cards during a series of bipolar manic episodes, so I'm quite sure that no new credit cards or other debt will be taken out under my name. There turn out to be upsides to having a worthless identity. ;)

As I say all the time, if someone steals my identity it won't be long before they are begging me to take it back.

I got an exercise bike with a pulse tracker on it.

My resting heart rate is ~65, which seems low given my issues. About the same as when I was healthy. It jumped up to ~100 though the moment I started pedaling on the lowest tension rating. It gradually got faster as I pedaled but I capped out at 115 after 6 minutes at 8.8mph before I needed to stop.

Interestingly enough, thinking/being faced with the person I'm in love with made it go up to ~130. So I guess unrequited romantic anxiety is more intensive than physical exertion.

My friend's resting heart rate is ~95 which seems rather high. Her boyfriend's was ~75.
