He's busy being Sco'ish at the Weird News thread so he'll be here soon, I suppose.

If I were Scottish I'd tell everybody that haggis is an English invention, even if it wasn't true.

You're German! Think of it as another type of sausage.

I bought a $3 lottery ticket.

I'm gonna be rich!

Or I just threw $3 away.

The statistics are on my side.

You are absolutely correct that the statistics are on your side.

I don't really wear hats. I wore a red baseball cap with a dragon on it back when I was 14 for a couple months. I wore it backwards. I was very cool.

But I decided it might be a good idea to start wearing hats during the winter. I have fussy hair. I keep it short now but whenever it's longer, something like a toque is both too hot and it ruins my hair. So I figure, hey, why not a beanie hat?

I bought a beanie hat last week. It shipped yesterday from China with an ETA date of the end of October. However, there was already a bag in my mailbox yesterday with a beanie hat inside. It was not the one I bought and it is from a different brand. Not too sure what's going on. I'm hoping the one I ordered still shows up next month though.

My radiohead volume knob tops out at 46. 46. What kind of scale goes to 46?

I think I might need to change this to a rant soon. They reported my review and got Amazon to remove it, and I found out they charged me shipping when the product page says free shipping.

Why does a band have a volume knob?

I thought this rape allegation against Kavanaugh was as good a reason as any to hit US cable news:

MSNBS:
Some hideous femiderp lady clearly playing defense so as to obscure obvious partisan malevolence of certain actors dealing with the accusation. She's actually comparatively nice.
Utterly unconvincing though.

*switch*

CNN:
They don't care. At all. Because they have that hate-boner for Russia, so nevermind.
First thing i see on the screen: Jeffrey effin Toobin. *facepalm*

Oh, now there's commercials.
I'll phase my knurd self right back in...
...in half an hour or if and when i need a lawyer (or cialis) in central Florida.
Whatever comes first.

'Murica
*shakeshead*

(I can't be bothered to bookmark Fox News. No idea what they're up to.
I'd care about what the pimp.. erm... Pope has to say, first.)

Edit:
Oh...
Oh no!
Nooooo!
CNN has found a storm.
I'm out of this. I'm sooo out of this.
That'll teach you to hit US cable news!

In this thread I will be posting one thought per day. That will be my only role in this thread. Feel free to discuss these thoughts amongst yourselves but don't expect any elaboration on these thoughts from me.

Thought of the Day: If you think having a degree means your political views are more valid or that you have better political insight than those without one, you are a threat to democracy.

PEW could use that for their polls as a marker to establish how populist you are, like they use left-right as another dimension, when investigating opinons on other subjects.

Counter thought of the day, if you are educated at a university level, odds are higher that your political views and insight are more valid than if you hadn't gotten that education.

Certainly not more valid just like race, religion, sex or owning property don't make your views more valid.
Certainly don't automatically have more insight because you are better educated. You should in theory be better able to make use of the information available to you but strong prejudices or lack of interest may mean you don't. A person without a degree may make more effort than someone with a degree to be well-informed and they may have experience that the person with a degree doesn't.
Just because you're an intellectual snob doesn't make you a threat to democracy, that depends on the beliefs you hold.

If you rely on having a degree as some sort of 'proof' that you must be right then thats a weak form of an argument from authority and easy to counter.
