Random Thoughts X: Impromptu Interpretations

In all 1rst-2nd world countries (and apparently also in this one, which is borderline 2nd world) there are national organizations which protect intellectual rights and pay some kind of support to writers/translators etc.
I just became a member. Let's see what kind of peanuts I get sent, for being involved (in one way or other) in 9 books :/

Dear member,

due to covid-19, many countries has limited or outright prohibited mass meetings. This has put strain on us, performers of Arts and Culture, as we can no longer make performances.

Many of our members has expressed gratitude for the compensation they receive from us, stressing how important it is to them in these dire times. In an effort to strengthen this compensation further, we've managed to remove almost all capital management costs associated with handling of local currencies. From now on, compensation will be paid in Units of LNCVH (Local Non Currency Value Holder). See below for details.

As always, we will continue to work hard for our members.

Ice dancing has been an Olympic sport for decades, though it was in jeopardy after the judging scandals 20-25 years ago (actually there was corrupt judging in the other figure skating disciplines as well, but the fix was especially obvious in ice dancing and pairs).

There's been a movement for many years to make ballroom dancing an Olympic sport (in the Summer Games). Since ice dancing is basically ballroom dancing on skates, I don't have a problem with that. There are enough technical aspects to ballroom dancing that it could be objectively judged on technical merit, and the interpretive element is an issue that's already been around for ages in figure skating, gymnastics, and the newer varieties of skiing events.

Would pothead Hitler still have invaded the Soviet Union? Unfortunately, we will never have the opportunity to study his mind in a clinical context.

Maybe we would be disappointed or even scared by its findings. What if Hitler had no clinical disorder to speak of? It could reveal something about all of us that we wouldn’t want to know!

I shouldn’t drink this much coffee in the morning.

I rarely drink coffee, so whenever I drink any then I lose the capacity to sleep.
That is what ze Germans did in WWII, drugging their soldiers with methamphetamines and other substances so that they'd fight on all day.

And Hitler himself. As explained in the book I mentioned in that post which you quote, he was on morphine and amphetamines and who knows what else during the war.

That doesn't make me think Fegelein was that hideous of a Nazi, it just makes me think he was in competition with Speer.
