Realpolitik 2014

The SoF is proposing a move to colonize the lands to the east to avoid competition with the rumored Germans to the west. While we have considered adding the Honour social tree to our platform, it has been rejected.

Just in time for sweeps, eh?

Still waiting for the finalized platform of the SoF we've been promised for days.

You have been promised nothing. What we have promised is that what the final plan will contain will incorporate policies advocated by the opposition if they make more sense than those initially released. Hence why nothing is 'final'.

Hence back to my original point that the SoF is literally doing and saying and promising anything to get votes at the last minute.

No, we are revising our plan, as was promised originally. I do not see how changing one's views when a sound argument is given against them is a bad trait.

Is it still in revision based on the voters you have to lure in still?

It will be able to be revised until the plan is sent to Lighthearter to be executed in the game. I do not believe in partisan politics as you do, and I do believe in releasing the plan for the public and hashing out revisions as needed when something is suggested that is better than what was originally there. Discussion and cooperation shall benefit Poland the most, not partisanship and bickering like you are prone to.

The schizophrenic activity of the SDP, along with the lack of a unified platform presented by the SoF Coalition, has left me no alternative but to change my party to the Socialist Workers Alliance.

It is hard to follow along if you don't see the reasoning which tends to happen in the chatroom over the course of the election.

In any case, there is hardly a lack of a unified platform. A potential plan was indeed presented, and counter arguments made by the potential opposition (no matter how despicably those arguments were made by a particular member) caused some potential policies to be reconsidered. Such policies number in the range of exactly two out of many I might add.

I'll provide my civV experiences and political nous to the Guardian Party.

I vote for the Guardian Party, and the Insanely Mad Warmongers Party

Would like to note that due to me being in school for half the day, Ninjacow and Jehoshua can be seen as reputable sources of official information regarding the platform as it has been discussed and potentially revised in the social group and have the authority to act upon on any sudden changes that may happen between now and the ending of the election since if voting ends at 5 PM EST tomorrow, there is a definite chance of me not being online until the very last minute.

Voting for the Guardian Party
EDIT: Didn't realize I had a second vote, so that goes to the Insanely Mad Warmongers' Party

This is the first time I'm not just lurking in a Realpolitik thread, so don't expect much from me.

The vote is 21-18-4-2 I believe. Megs has 21, I have 18, Reus can bring 4 votes, and Ailed can bring 2.

Which just goes to show you how far you can get by having a platform for every voter, and a position for every vote.

The Immortal Jehoshua, clad in robes of black, walked silently through the streets of Poland as the mortals scurried too and fro, some casting fearful glances towards him, as mothers hid their children indoors. His reputation was fearsome, cold and soulless the mortal called him, for unlike many amongst the immortal court, he cared not for the opinions of the sheep and sought only to shepherd the herd to a design far beyond the scope of mortal comprehension. By. any. means. necessary.

In the public square... although it could more be called a field. For Poland at this stage of development was little more than a tribe, its city a mere ramshackle collection of huts clustered around an equally ramshackle palace, the immortal addressed his fellows, and those who had come to watch, in a quiet and serene voice.

Speech to the Immortals and the Attendant Flock said:
Brethren, we have consulted with our associates in the party of immortal guardians and have come to an agreement on the right way in which we may shepherd our mortal herd from generation to generation, that our imperium and glory may advance, and our servants prosper in the glory of our presence.

We have on matters of wisdom concluded to set our servants to the task of uncovering the secrets of pottery, and then animal husbandry, mining, the calendar and writing that the foundations of true philosophy and the subjugation of nature may be laid. Through the fashioning of clay shall the fruits of the earth be stored and dispensed at our pleasure for the good of our servants, through the taming of beasts at our command shall our empire grow in power and wealth, in uncovering means to bring ore from the earth shall the economic power and wealth of our realm grow, and through understanding the cycle of seasons and the power of signs, shall we lay a way of wisdom which shall grant us eternal superiority over other nations, which in due course shall kneel in submission before us.

To more practical ends, We of the guardian party and our partners have agreed, as our appointed figurehead has decreed, that it is imperative that a warrior be trained first to secure the defence of our servants from the barbarous savages that deny our divine authority. Proceeding from this a group of workers will be trained, at our request and at the agreement of the Lord of the Warriors party, that by casting into perpetual servitude the unworthy the land may be brought into our dominion, for our servants to utilise and prosper by, and for the imperium of the immortal lords to use to increase ever in greatness and power.

At this point shall it be expedient to then prepare and send forth settlers to spread our dominion further, with our second warriors being tasked in accordance with our farsightedness to garrison and protect the new city created by this endeavour both on the way, and once the city is firmly established upon a solid foundation. Hence in our capital, it would then be rightly well considered to construct at the discretion of the immortal masters a granary or if our servants knowledge has progressed to such a point, a great monument (Stonehenge) to heaven and to the glory of us immortal brethren. By either of these works shall the best interests of our flock be guaranteed, be it through the judicious storage of food that our people may be fruitful and multiply, and in concordance to their numbers make the nation ever more prosperous, or through the favour of heaven which would in time reap great benefits to our domain.

Finally on matters of policy, circumstance and necessity is what rightly dictates what comes to pass. Yet it is agreed amongst the coalition that it is correct that tradition be the first policy ingrained amongst the people, that the flock through the heritage of their fathers might perpetually owe us due reverence and obedience and so in harmony with our decrees better expand our dominion and advance in refinement. Indeed through that reverence we are certain that the flock will come in time to respect the rule of law, and the rightness of our divine rule.

From this it is our own opinion that immortal aristocracy should be instituted that we may ourselves find serenity of mind, lest we reduce ourselves to the level of the basest of men begging the mob to crown us lords. However we would support ,and many amongst our brethren in the coalition are of a similar mind, the institution of liberty if circumstances are appropriate, permitting the mortal flock certain liberties as a reward for their perpetual loyalty, and providing them avenues through which by autonomous will, apart from our direct instruction, they might grow in cultural refinement and thus increase the cultural majesty of our immortal rule.

Should either decision (liberty or aristocracy) be undertaken (for the coalitions position on policy despite nuances between the various parties that make up its whole, is firstly that our choices must be prudential to the times, and secondly that they must be in harmony with the divine plan we envision for our subjects) we would be well placed to extend policy into the sphere of legalism, or into concepts of citizenship and republicanism should it be the right time to institute such designs. Likewise should it come to pass that insolent powers initiate war on our servants and on us, we would be well placed to extend our oligarchical dominion and more directly provide guidance to our flock, that they might be defended better against the threat. Thus this preliminary policy platform presents one could attest, a flexible (as compared to the rigid prioritisation on traditionalism our detractors propose) policy that would enable Poland to adapt to the needs of necessity in the future in either traditionalist or liberal manners in reaction to the agency of foreign forces. If for example our dominion is being encircled our focus can proceed into liberty, taking advantage of the cultural benefits of our first institution of tradition. If agitators turn the flock against us for evil purposes, we can focus on legalism. If hordes of savages face us, than as our coalitions head stated, we can take appropriate steps without unduly compromising our overall plans for the prosperity of the flock and the good of our empire.

This being so, we present a clear and well-developed proposition and option for the consideration of those who have been entrusted to elect the leadership of our imperium. Its emphasis is on practically setting up the foundations of a developed society through a focus on economic and cultural refinement directed in such a way as to prepare the way for scientific flourishing. We would hence suggest that those who are yet undecided, or who in ill-considered haste set store by others, that they careful consider this proposition and give a due account of it

notes

Spoiler :
: bolded are positions of the guardian party that are agreed to by the IMWP and the coalition in general, and can be considered coalition policy.
: underlined presents my immortal characters personal position on matters of social policy as a base from which the points he made on social policy proceed. These positions are generally supported by the Guardian party and the coalition, but have not yet been formalised as coalition policy (we agree on going tradition first, but the question of whether to go aristocracy first or straight into liberty is dependant on circumstance and is a subject of ongoing discussion)

summation of speeches policies, and other considered positions.

Spoiler :
Victory Goal: Predicated on circumstance, at this early stage and considering the multiple factions at play and we are under no illusions that governance will change with elections, we are focussed on establishing solid foundations for the nation to enable multiple avenues of victory to be undertaken as circumstance demands.

Tech: pottery > animal husbandry > mining > calendar > writing

Build: warrior > worker > settler > granary or Stonehenge depending on tech (monument in second city, or warrior if we are militarily threatened)

Social Policy: Tradition > (aristocracy or liberty) > either down the tradition path or into liberty depending on geopolitical situation we find ourselves in. Early honour if we face barbarians. Future policy beyond this point is for later consideration as circumstances are assessed.

Foreign Policy: scouting warrior obviously should steal a city-state worker if possible, other than that we consider foreign policy a secondary priority at this time.

Settler: Should settle in spot that fulfils the priorities of sequestering the most possible territory for future polish expansion while still being economically beneficial. This is likely somewhere in Ukraine or Belarus however it may include settling in the area between Poland and the adriatic if the Balkans are relatively open for expansion.

Military: War isn't an immediate goal, but our position is that war would prudentially be aimed at whichever conquest most effectively benefits Poland. Ergo likely Russia, however if western Europe is heavily resourced relative to Rusisa it may be expedient to extend conquests there. Again, much like social policy this is really a matter of prudential decision making based on particular circumstances. The Guardian party and the coalition its a part of understands that power shifts will occur in Poland and that good governance involves taking account of likely changes and possibilities to ensure a relatively seamless continuity which enables maximal benefit to be had under our sequential government model.
