We could also turn Mexico into a nuclear wasteland, no Mexicans=no illegal mexican immigrants. When people say something "cant be done" there is the general societal assumption that we are talking about within reasonable means. Pretty much anything can be accomplished if you want to go full out crazy on it, solutions that arent realistic or proper are pointless to mention as solutions.

The labor-type argument that we need to slow down immigration to allow wages to rise is fine, but the right wing argument smells more of "Keep the brown mudbloods out!"

Exactly, I think there is very few who want a leaky border, but many of the conservative's positions reek of a discriminatory level Im just not comfortable with. Tend to use terminology that applies an almost subhuman view towards the people doing the immigration which is sort of a turn off. If someone is willing to DIE to get to the USA:

Then we have two choices:

Make sure he does
OR
Allow him to get here

There is no middle ground, there is no temporizing.
Only people who dont want to see that, and those that do.

The USA is already over-populated. It consumes far more than is sustainable.

Okay, pull over. Speeding ticket.

I would have no problem with putting in a system of motion detectors and 50 cal. machine guns to mow down unathorized incursions and no, I don't care if they have their kids with them. We are on the same boat here pal.

But we are not overpopulated. We need immigrants. Smart ones. Those that we choose to come and stay and work and expand our economy. The idea is that we need to attract the best and brightest from around the world here. This is what makes us America.

Having great people here makes the economic pie larger here, rather than elsewhere. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the more people that come in the less resources we have to squabble over. Thats just not true. This planet will support at least 20 trillion people easily and we just get better at resources extraction and conservation every day.

If we had not killed 50 million babies in the womb we would be much stronger today. We need to fix that too. We are facing demographic decay. It must not continue.

We should increase legal immigration and increase economic freedom and we would almost without fail enter another golden age. (well, if we go to conservative fiscal and monatary policy we would)
