Just for Rex, an alternative opening...
Garrim Gyr was in a foul mood as he stomped back to the gathered Luchuirp. “Make fun of me will you” he muttered under his breath. “We’ll show you there’s more than one way to be big around here.”
As he reached the expectant gathering, he stopped and looked at the faces looking at him. “What news from the council, my lord? Did all go as expected?”
“Hurumph, well not entirely as expected. We have declared war with our Khazad brothers on the rest of the tribes of Erebus. We are to show them who is to be respected around here.”
Shock registered on the Luchuirp faces as the intent of what Garrim Gyr was saying sunk in.
“We need to start a settlement and prepare our defences and fortifications.” Garrim instructed them.
“But where shall we start our settlement, lord. Shall we settle right here?” one dwarf ventured.
“Aha!” exclaimed Garrim. “That is exactly what they expect us to do. No, let us move atop that hill to the east, they will never expect us dwarves to build a settlement there.”
“Um, sure. Consider it done.”
----------------------------------------------------
Stumpy, the Luchuirp scout was exploring the territory east of the main settlement, when he stopped in his tracks. Lifting his nose to the sky, he took in a deep breath.
“Nerd scent.” He declared. The lands of the Amurite and Dain their leader must be to the south-west.
He recalled the words of Garrim Gyr, “Do not announce yourselves to the other tribes if at all possible but scout the lands and find the traces of them. Be as swift as a gopher and quiet as a hamster.”
Marking the territory he left the area and travelled north. In his confusion over how quiet a hamster is, he didn’t notice the griffon until it was upon him.

The scouting reports had been compiled and mapped out and Garrim Gyr was poring over the reports.
He was pleased at what he could see, both the Luchuirp and Khazad scouting had been good and much of the surrounding area had been mapped.
The exploring warrior would enter a village soon to see if the locals could help the cause.
All in all, everything was looking good. The Amurite were close, so had to be kept an eye on but they were unawares of the dwarven presence to their north and east. Hopefully Dain would be the first to bow down and grovel for forgiveness. The thought made Garrim smile and he turned his attention back to the maps.
