Proteins fold you!

Golly. I wish I could sue you for that! Everyone in my office looked at me 'cause of my laughing. I don't know why it made my funny bone go berserk, but it did.

@Weasel Op: No. wdfmgr.exe is associated with Windows Media Player 10. Here is a link for it. Click me, you know you want to! If you want to disable it, locate the services "Windows User Mode Drivers". I have it disabled and have never run into any issues because if it, but your mileage may vary.

@El_Machinae: Glad you got a kick out of that. :)

If you've set up the console version correctly to run as a service, you'll actually have two processes running. The console client itself and also 'core' client that is actually doing the grunt work on the work unit.

The console client will be the name of the executable, so unless you rename it, it will be something like FAH504-Console.exe or something similiar. It won't take up much memory and won't be using the CPU.

The core client will be something like "FahCore_65.exe" or "FahCore_78.exe", et cetera. This is the one which will be maxing out your processor when your system is otherwise idle, as well as sucking up the memory.

Welcome aboard, Tenochtitlan!

What I want to know is how Jonathan has gotten a score of 809, leading the team, with only one CPU, whereas second and third place (VRWCAgent and I, respectively) are running at least two processors. :goodjob:

Yeah, I saw that! Must be one screaming machine, that's for sure.

Oh, and for the record, I have two processors so far on it. That'll jump to a total of six eventually, but two of those will be laptops that are shut down for long periods and they'll be setup with no-deadline WUs.

im also curious whats happened to sophie... she started it.. yet hasnt got anywhere with it since.

I'd like to know why mine is only running at 50% at all times.. if it makes my computer likely to be more responsive I'm happy about it though.

She said something about it not working properly on her mac..

At this point I've got four Celeron-500 processors running deadlineless WUs (and it looks like they'll each take over a week per WU), two 3GHz Xeon servers running for the next week or two, and two moderate P-4 workstations for the long haul.

Being a company's network admin has its privileges. :king:

Yeah, I did. It just seems to go very slowly. I've got two high-end iMacs running it and in about 24hours the newer one has only got to 57%. Hmm, I might catch up a bit by the weekend. Also my parents are neurotic about saving electricity, so it can only run when someone is working at the computer, I'm not allowed to leave them on while I'm reading or something. Dang ports/adaptations... Macs work beautifully with things designed for them, but the different OS does make ports slow and annoying.

Assuming you've got a relatively new Pentium-4, it probably involves hyperthreading. XP sees a HT processor as being two "virtual" processors, but in this case only maxes one of them out. I believe after the smoke clears that you really are running at max utilization on your PC's processor, so just ignore the 50% indicator.

Better-explained explanation here: http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=13352

I'm still suspicious about the mac port being slow. Apple has a team in the top 100 and I'm sure they're not running wintel machines ;)

I am running a P4 with hyperthreading on XP, so I guess that could be it.. even so, I seem to lag behind most other people, not sure if they just leave their computers up 24/7 (I don't).

And I can't speak for anyone else, but my machines are pretty much up 24/7.

im close to 12 hours a day.. but with other things runnning at same time..

this is on my laptop.. a 3.6ghz p4 HT with XP

Hmpfh i just got my first work unit for the second time! It is worth a lot of points, but it takes ages to complete. My computer might have to number crunch on it until Saturday.

It looks like no matter how long the cpu is running at 100% (currently 2 days), the temperature won't rise above 45° Celsius. That is alright, i suppose.
