Careful. Remember that a work computer is not your property. If you abuse your work's rules regarding computer use, you can be fined and sued.

I know - I'm the one who calls up people and complains when they install non-company software :)

I got sick of the stupid graphical animation causing my video card to crash so I switched to the console version... Meh...

yeah, the animation was gratifying for a little while, but then you never use it again. Especially when you realise that generating the image takes processing power (I think)

It probably takes a little, apparently it also conflicts with OpenGL games (like Civ4), you can't have both going at the same time.

Welcome back Slozenger!

We've climbed into the top 10% of all teams while you were gone. :)

glad to hear it - look out for my thread "what i did in my week out" coming sometime soon!

Keep up with the folding guys n gals, i want us climbing futher!

Up, up, and away! With IglooDude appropriating those work systems, there is no stopping us. :D

oh yea- can one of you vote this thread with 5 stars? give us a little more chance of getting noticed. I cannot obviously as i started the thread.

In order to make the Celeron herd more palatable at work, I'm considering going to a license-less (Linux) OS instead of WinXP. In the next week or so I'm going to spool up a spare Celeron (identical hardware to the herd) with Linux and see how it goes. Is anyone that has installed F@H on Linux willing to answer newbyish questions on general Linux installs and/or F@H installs?

@Sloz - I don't think you can rate OT threads. :(

dang- and it doesnt look like that feature will get incorperated any time soon.

Any ideas how we can expand futher?

Any chance we could convince Thunderfall to implement some sort of "you have to fold two proteins before you can post" rule? :D

I'm actually a big fan of the "sticky" idea.

We could ask TF to post about our team on the main page... That could do a lot of good.

Sounds a good idea to me, and :welcome: Illusion13

I saw El_Machinae's link a while ago and so joined, but didn't know we had an offical group! That problem is now fixed, and my computer (an old one though) is now helping us. It's on anyway, and not used much anyway. I've already completed 13 wu, and another set to end 7:00 wed, so I'll do my part! :salute:

Edit: 4 computers running under the civ fanatics banner now! (one a laptop though).

"Too late"? Maybe to catch up to people abusing work systems, sure. But, every fold you do speeds the process. The folds are done in 'waves', and a new wave can't be started until an old wave is finished. If you do even ONE fold (and don't download another, if you won't complete it), you've sped the process to the next wave.

And the faster we finish these waves, the faster the papers get published, which means other researchers get the results faster. I know that when I read research papers, I use the information nearly instantly, so even a month's delay actually has a cost for me.

I don't benefit from this research (directly), but I expect others do.
