September Patch Notes Discussion

Notification icons for 'barbs approaching' and 'new camp' have exchanged their meanings...

- And so in my first 'Test Game' I spent several minutes trying to find the barbarian Scout near my city that I thought the icon was indicating! Took a couple of reiterations before I realized what was happening . . .

I though I would never get the play a MP game achievement (at least not for actually playing MP) and there it is, unlocked.

It was fun, though I'm not a fan of MP combat, timer and people all attacking at the same turn. Stand still so I can kill you, for god sake!!!

Only works for floodplains at least 3-long
Does this means if a river want to flood, both side of it need an 'at least 3 tiles long' floodplain ? How about one side 3 tiles long and another side 2 tiles, does it still work?

Only works for hand-created maps, not adjusted map-script created maps.
How about the real earth map, from my opinion, it should belong to the 'hand-created map' but not 'adjusted map-script created map', is it correct?

If so, does this means the river in earth map can flood now? I have tested it in earth map for 50 turns, besides river still don't have a name, it still cannot flood, not sure if it's not the time (maybe 100 turns?) or the lastest world builder update is not working for earth map.

More likely the map wasn't updated.

I mean it was made with the old WB that couldn't add IDs to rivers (allowing them to be named and to flood), and would require an update with the new version of the WB.

I think it's this patch. Now how was I supposed to know that this tile is actually grassland, not tundra hills, if I weren't accidentally checking my options against barbarians? :D

Got it, thanks.

Inspired by your reply, I tested using new WorldBuilder: delete part of rivers in earth map, save, and re-add rivers in the same position, now this part of rivers have name, but still cannot flood (in 100 turns I test).

Havent had a chance to try the new update yet, but was wondering if Kupe has an advantage on the Terra map?
People say that all the CS end up in the New World, but even if its only most of them - Hungary/Georgia/Pericles very sad until they can traverse the ocean. Kupe is extraordinarily pleased; in fact it's almost cheating. He basically has a lock on first meeting a TON of city states plus he can set up a base of operations in the new world eras before others.

It will be interesting to see if the lack of grabbing a quick CS capture will affect how the high level AI grows, too. I'm half expecting some serious old world dogfighting (denser major civ placement means early war is even more important.)

In a bizarre turn of events, at least Frederick will have a grand time sailing to the land of city states as a crusader-turned-conquistador. Who's really gonna mind if he rubs out a few CS to make room for New Germany...
Hopefully the AI can handle the colonization part early enough.

I'm happy they are adding in new map experiences lately. It gives grizzled vets a reason to get back into things.
A "battle royale" scenario is so peak 2019

Wow, talk about maori buffs: essentially free lumbermills on every woods feature that stacks with marae... And they are gonna be so OP on terra!

Reading through, overall pretty good. 2 things i would of liked to have seen, unless i missed it or they weren't documted, they didn't fix the Janissary merge bug and roads still cost 1 charge for ME. The former bug is very noticeable, and very frustrating.

Is there much to say?

Patch is awesome. Coastal changes are great (minor quibble aside), and changes to Hurricane damage and District Repairs are also awesome. Extra features are great too, particularly maps.

I was hoping for a few more tweaks beyond what was in the video - I think there were a few small things FXS could easily have done - but what we’re getting is really great. A lot more of the game’s mechanics will be playable now.

Red Death isn’t for me, but it’s super cute and very appreciated. How it came about is very cool. And the game looks very fun. Well done. And hey, if nothing else, there are a now a few more cool art assets for mods.

So, yeah. Awesome. We basically all just got a major balance pass and a free dlc. What’s not to like?

So, here’s the deal FXS. I’m going to play the shirtballs out of Civ for the next 2 months. You guys keep working on a third expansion. Let’s catch-up again in November and see how things are going...

I haven't fought any civs yet, but barbarian units are more prone to escape when low on health now.

So the skull was for the Red Death, but do we know why there was a Venetian mask as a clue in the announcement of the patch?
Could also be Red Death

Did a deity Dom England game but forgot to used the twisted map, only remembered 50 turns in and CBA because it was a good start.
Feels roughly the same AI wise, walls down just as long but xbows became more prevalent though which was a slowing surprise.
Will look at twisting tonight but was just another game albeit a touch more challenging. Finished too early for planes & shiz

Well, I continued my (amazing) Sweden game, and since I wasn't really that far into it, and hadn't even made my first Harbors yet, the transition to post patch rules was quite smooth. I do really enjoy the changes, and look forward to playing a real coastal civ next. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus may be slightly less powerful overall now that it doesn't give extra Great Admiral charges, but I do find the "Ocean Petra" bonuses to be more enjoyable. :-)

I did not miss the admirals apart from the initial free one as England because you don’t need the mausoleum admiral benefits. Sort of like a Peter of the sea. Those sea tiles did look great with a shipyard up as well.

Is anyone having problems with the Create Game menu after the update? I am unable to find the button to go to Advanced Setup. Is this a bug?
