Single Player bugs and crashes - After the 16th of May

How many turns did you let it run for? Joseph can get 2 or 3 typically I believe (I can get 50 repeatedly but have not tried higher).

@Joseph & SO: can you post your computer specs please. I'm wondering if maybe it only manifests (or at least is more likely) on faster computers than mine...

Just ran off 10 turns with a setting of 2 and no problem. So both 1 and 2 work for me.

Comp specs: i7 2600 @3.4GHz (8 cores if I'm reading it right), Win 7 Pro 64, 8GB of 1666Mhz DDR3 ram and a vid card made by Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti with 4095MB DDR3 total graphics (1024 Dedicated graphics and 3071 Shared sytem memory), DirectX10
Processor subscore 7.6
Ram subscore 7.6
Both Graphics subscores of 7.3
But my HD drags me down with a 5.9 subscore

see attached . . . SO, this is my 2nd PC, other one is in the shop (3rd pic)

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes when I end turn it crashes, but sometimes it's fine. There is also something wrong with the graphics, unit graphics disappear sometimes. I'm not using viewports.

Maybe you will have more luck seeing the problem in my save.

OK, from that save I posted, it is not possible to continue. It crashes as soon as I press enter.

I changed the multi-threading in global defines to 1 (was 4), and have just played 20 turns with no problems.

You both have significantly faster machines with a higher core count than I do, so it's possible that there is some sort of timing issue that does not occur (or is far less likely to occur) on my computer. We'll wait and see if AIAndy or TB can reproduce it (ls612 says he cannot)...

This save crashed for me too (at least the first time), so I'll see what I can figure out...

Edit - found the problem behind at least this one, and it IS a concurrency problem that WOULD be strongly influenced by timing factors, so it MIGHT well be the same underlying issue that Joseph and SO are seeing. Testing a fix now...

I'm getting some low-level memory issues on mod load now repeatably. It is a bit of a pain as I can't use C2C at all now. I have tested this with a fresh SVN twice now, and it fails at the same place in the XML load. Dump attached.

What do you have the multi on? Try 1 if not there already. If so do what i wrote above about so many times of testing till it takes effect.

There is no multi-threading of loading so far as I know, so that can't be the problem.

It's on my to-do list, but not until after the next version release (just concentrating on stabilization now)

I thought that loading was throttled by disk I/O now that we used RapidXML.

Also, do you have any idea what is the cause of the dump I posted?

I have a similar system, an i7 3770 processor and 16G RAM, but hard drive drags down to the 5.9 subscore

And I also had the CTD issues (and occasional invisible units-flag still showed) until I changed that 4 to a 1, then was able to play a couple hundred turns issue free tonight.

Had to leave for the evenng but back now. Before I left I ran 10 turns each on settings 1 and 2 with no problems. But when I ran with setting on 3 on the 8th turn it CTD'd like before.

If needed I have save and mini available of that particular crash.

I am having the overflow problem again but now it only occurs when I could have built more than 2 buildings in a turn.

I know what is causing the problems with the Natural Wonders and hope to have a fix tomorrow.

No - its still slow loading from an SSD, so I'm pretty sure it's not disk limited. Anyway, that's part of what I plan to investigate - I'm no going to blindly parallelize it unless it gains a significant amount. I have not looked at your dump - I'm still working on the CTD SO/Joseph/TC reported. Since I haven't fiddled with loading there I no reason to believe it's something I have done, so I'm prioritizing it behind things that I can ascribe fairly definitely to my changes. If nobody else looks at it by the time I get done with that, then I will.

Edit - the PDB is corrupt in that rev of the SVN so I cannot interpret your minidump. You could try again with the latest (for which I do have the PDB), but unless it's obvious from the dump you're likely to be in the best position to debug it since you can get it to happen under a debugger, whereas it's working fine for me currently.

Today's SVN

This is an autosave at beginning of the turn.
I have completed Leonardo's Workshop so it gives me menu with free tech selection, but when i choose Clockworks it says in log - "You have already chosen your free techs"

Savegame attached

OK NEW SVN dll:

1st One (StrategyOnly AD-0490) still CTD upon loading, savedgame, mini and BBAI in Zip

2nd one (Japan) when clicking on next turn CTD (game/mini/BBAI in zip)

these were on 2 before the dll but changed it to 4 and got these.

I have 10 more game to look at . . . SO
