Single Player bugs and crashes v39 plus (SVN) - After the 20th of July 2019

When you changed to State Religion Civic did it not say you could draft X number of units? What religion is your State religion? Are you using Divine Prophets? Multiple Religion Spread?
I can't remember such notification.
My state religion is Druidism, which I founded.
Divine Prophets disabled.
Multiple Religions Spread enabled.

EDIT: Check All your Civics that you are currently using to see which one or ones will allow drafting units.
No civic says in description that conscription is enabled. Hence was my question.

Traits can enable unit drafting, I'm not sure if buildings allows too.

That's how it used to be.

But anymore? No I'm not 100% sure on Anything in this Mod now today. :p

You learn something new every day.

But the tech tree not beeing affected by any kind of change in previous versions of C2C can't be right.

My guess is that he started new game on Github version.
But then he went back to SVN to play on his current game - SVN doesn't have prehistoric era revision yet.

Or he didn't drink coffee :coffee::badcomp:
@JosEPh_II to check if you are using github version of game, check if there are 3 techs on first column of tech tree, and if there is unresearched tech - Nocturnalism somewhere in Prehistoric era.

It was explained to me by either DH or koshling several years ago that once you started a game the Tech tree was locked into place by the game.

I have not played but 1 test game with the New Preh era and That was Before GitHub. When KaTiON had it in his thread to D/L.

I have used the GitHub to play my current games But I have not Started any New Games with it.

For billw's 11024 Commit I cut/pasted the GitHub out of my Game folder and put in his SVN release to see how it would load. It worked and I played 5 turns with it.

Today I have not touched the game as I had other things to do.

You did see Thunderbrd's reply right? If you are using Complex Traits some of the Traits allow Drafting.

Then you misunderstood something.
If you move techs in tech tree, they will move in ongoing game too.

I moved techs in my test games, and they moved in game too.
They stay researched, if they were already researched before moving.

Here is new tech tree in save, that I had from July.

Or something in the code was changed since then.

So how do you explain what billw said about his games? Not that it matters either. Because it did not change in your game and that's the final word.

@billw2015 @alberts2 @Thunderbrd ,
If I have to have Git on my computer to play C2C then I'm going back to SVN. I have tried 3 times now to get a working copy from Git. I have tried to get GitHub Desktop to work. I have downloaded the Main .zip. I have cloned. All take forever to load up and when they do I get Error: GameSpeedInfos.xml missing.

So I uninstalled GitHub Desktop. And tried it from the GitHub folder I had In My Documents. No go. So I Uninstalled Git. Then I tried the version I had saved when I tested the 11024 SVN Commit release. It would not load either. Save game incompatible pop up.

So for now and forseeable future I will be using SVN Only.

Did you run the DevSetup.bat?
That is needed the first time you try to set up your git folder to be playable.

Yes I did that several days ago. But it's all deleted right now. Even Git. I got fed up after 3 hours of trying to get an updated Main branch that is even loadable much less playable. I did not have this problem 2 days ago.

EDIT: There should be a playable version on Git that does Not need the DevSetup.bat imo.
EDIT2: I'll re-install Git tomorrow after I've cooled down. Right now I'm No Happy with Git!

@Team,
The AI is woefully under defending their Capitols. Here are the 3 AI Empires I have Embassies with and then My Capitol for comparison. See screenshots below

As I posted last night, took me a minute to figure out I had to use that to get the install to work. It was clarified for me earlier that install.bat doesn't cut it.

Tech tree changed in my screenshots (tech tree before and after revision), techs always change position in game, if you change their Xgrid/Ygrid position in tech infos.
It doesn't matter if game was already in progress.

You said, that techs didn't change location in ongoing game, at least everyone thought you said that, because you weren't clear.
You probably tried to say, that researched techs will stay researched.

You messed up something very seriously.
Maybe you changed to other repository?
Latest SVN is backward compatible with github version.
Once you save in github or SVN 11024 and later there is no coming back.

Also if you used dev setup again, you should have targeted Mods folder, where mod is sitting, not Caveman2Cosmos itself.

Well I dunno what you expect me to do with this? You could have asked for help when something first went wrong, if you spent ages trying to get it to work until you got frustrated and quit then there is nothing I can do. We all got it to work in the end, although I needed to fix a couple of things, and help a couple of people.
You can certainly use SVN to play the game, that is what it is there for. You can't continue to submit to it though as changes will be overwritten from git whenever a deployment is made.
If you want help to get it working then I am perfectly happy to help, as I said multiple times. The easiest way is if you drop in discord and I or someone else in a more convenient time zone can talk you through it or help with any problems.

Some things to check if it isn't working when you try again:
  • Don't fetch into your Mods folder. Put it somewhere else, the default Github Desktop gives should be fine.
  • Make sure you have at least .NET 4.7 installed http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=2085155 (I think you will if you are on Windows 10)
  • Remove any existing Caveman2Cosmos from your mods folder
  • Run DevSetup.bat
  • If anything doesn't look like it does in the video I made then it might indicate a problem.

I don't "expect" you to do anything. This was an FYI.

Also GitHub did an update yesterday early on my computer. Then when I tried to fetch the main for updates in the afternoon all this other crap came up.

And as I said before I don't commit as often as others do. So I'm still basically floundering around with Git. I'll be blunt I find git is Not easier to work with than SVN. BUT since the Team wanted to move to Git I followed along, not much choice in the matter once I saw the direction it was headed. I will eventually get up to snuff. Or I will end up just posting my work for someone else on the Team to add to the master, to commit for me when the time comes.

Sorry you don't like my frustration spilling out. But it's who I am.

I don't think you should judge how easy it is to use until you have actually got it setup and working, and are used to it like you were used to SVN. It seems obvious that using something you haven't used before is going to be more difficult than using something you know how to use. That was a given from the start. I have tried to make it as easy as possible, and make myself available 16hrs a day to help fix any problems. You shouldn't be doing anything to get it working that isn't in that video I made. The video is 3 minutes long (I skipped download time etc.). Just do exactly what is in the video, and if it doesn't work don't bother trying other things like zip files, or cloning again or whatever, just please describe precisely what the problem is, or drop in discord and ask for help.
If you need me to write down the steps instead of a video I can do it, but I thought a video would be easiest because it would allow you to tell if something you are seeing doesn't match what is meant to happen.

Thank you for the overview again. Perhaps I'll get it right. What default GitHub Desktop location? My Documents? I have win 10 64 Pro and it's fully updated.

Remove any existing Caveman2Cosmos from your mods folder
Hmm.... I left an Empty Caveman2Cosmos folder there and after getting another Caveman2Cosmos Inside of it, cut the inside C2C folder then deleted the empty C2C aand then pasted the cut Folder back in. Still would get the incompatible save pop up OR the Error popup that GameSpeedInfos was missing, and then the cascade of other missing folder/files that follow after GameSpeedInfos.xml. Where I the would have to go to Task manager and Kill (End Task) for CivIV BtS, or just click the X on each error popup forever.

I thought that it was acting like SVN when someone Does Not check their work and have made an error in an xml file. Looked exactly like it. So I got leery of the latest commits to GIT. Because it was acting just like I described how the SVN would react to bad changes to xml.

Also I'm 67 and 1/2 years old and I'm getting tired of being 2nd guessed and challenged on things I've seen and done in this mod, and in my life. Getting older does Not help this. :P

When the directory select dialog pops up you should go to your Mods directory. Do NOT select Caveman2Cosmos directory in there:

When running DevSetup.bat it should look like this (after you have selected Mods dir):
