Slavery Reparations: Is it time?

I'm still waiting for someone to complain about how wrong it was that the Irish received reparations. I mean, if it would be so awful, surely someone has complaints to make how it was so unfair to the people forced to sell their property.

Landholders were ordered, by an act of parliament, to allow renters to switch from paying rent, to paying a lease. After several years of paying their lease, renters would then own the land they worked, which allowed them to finally have disposable income as they were no longer paying rent. No increase in the tax burden, and allowed the rentiers to even receive a fair price for their land (independent commissions and whatnot solved that).

While obviously this doesn't have a direct parallel (except maybe in urban and government housing projects) it does show that reparations projects, when they do exist do not necessarily consists of giving a large lump sum payment to the descendant.

How do you suggest reparations be executed in the USA, was the question. You voted that it should happen, how should it happen?

The fact that the demographic categories that constitute a large majority of the population have only a "significant" presence is rather the exception that proves the rule, don't you think?

I don't know what you are trying to say here. Whites are still the majority in the US and are expected to stay the majority until 2050, at which point they are expected to become a plurality. So no, all the minorities combined still do not match the amount of whites in the population.

The only way your point makes sense is if you are talking about the population of the entire planet. Even then though, your point still doesn't stand since the thread is about reparations for descendants of slaves in the US so only US demographics apply in this thread.

Seriously, though, I'd be interested in hearing you elaborate on this "anti-Western Marxist" thing. It's always good to keep track of the current criticisms of your position, so if you'd be able to outline some of the key points of the idea? (Presumably there's a distinction between "[anti-Western][Marxist]" and "[anti-][Western Marxist]", so we're not just talking about a bunch of Marcuse-haters.)

Because I've never previously heard the expression outside of fascist or quasi-fascist rhetoric? I mean, if there's some more respectable conception that I'm missing, please elaborate (I guess you didn't catch the edit to that effect in my last post), but at present you may as well have said "Jewish Bolshevists".

It doesn't take a weatherman to know it's raining out.
It stands to reason, if you are sure that it should happen, you should be able to at least have some kind of suggestion as you have clearly thought about it enough to come up with a wildly unpopular position which I am sure you have some reasoning for... it doesn't have to be the 100% answer, but can't you give us something?

This isn't going to be held against you in a court of law... you won't be forced to pay reparations, in any way, shape, or form if you mess up the answer... nor will your descendents, should you choose to have any.

The government will enact some law, some people will complain about them, the people will follow the laws because the government has guns, and people don't like change, the enacted laws shall moderately improve the lot of African-Americans. If it doesn't, it's probably a bad solution, and people will try to work out a better one.

Personally, I can't wrap my head around the kind of thinking that leads a man to believe that because someone doesn't know the solution, there isn't a problem.
