So what is really going on in Iraq?

I've been in the USAF for almost 20 years now. I've never been to Iraq (been to Turkey), but many of my friends and comrades have and they all say the same thing, "The news media casts a mostly negative image of the war there."

Here are some facts from my buddies at the front:

1. The insurgents are a very small minority, but they get all the press coverage.

2. A huge majority of the insurgents are not Iraqi, but other Islamic extremists for other countries (Iran, Syria, etc.) looking for a fight and a place to push their radical ideas.

3. Most Iraqis are very greatful for what the Americans are doing, such as building schools, drilling water wells, rebuilding services such as telephone, TV and radio.

4. The majority of US military members over there understand their mission, realize that it's only temporary and are proud to serve there. We do our job and look out for each other so we can all get back home quickly and safely.

There's a lot I'd like to say, but my security clearance forbids it. I can say is that the press thinks they know everything, but they only know about 10% of the real story. Saying that, I can assure you that America knows what it is doing and there are things that the media and average citizen don't need to know.

Mano3, You will forgive me, but after the complete clusterf*** the Pentagon made of post war planning, Abu Graib, Paid propaganda stories, Lies about how soldiers have died, etc... I must take this with a grain of salt.

Kayak, I get far more reports like Mano3 gave here, than I do negative reports from troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have a young Captain in my office who's first day back to work from a Iraq deployment is today. He worked directly inside of Abu Graib prison and said in the 7 months he was there he saw a positive difference from between the time he arrived and the time he left and that things are not nearly as bad as the press represents. This from a guy who was stationed in the most hated location in Iraq.

Like 30,000 civilians killed, 100 of thousands wounded or maimed.

So has your "security clearance" found you those WMD's that all those "we know more than you's because we ahve secret innformation" in the neocon gang were talking about?

Please. You don't know jack. And it is obvious most of the insurgents are IRAQI's, just look at the "terrorists" being captured and jailed, less than 10% of them are foreigners, by our own numbers.

Why do you all insist on making things up? You all should really be eating humble pie, since so many of you were SO sure there would be WMD's. Don't you feel a little STUPID for being so confident about something, and being so WRONG? Isn't it about time to wake up and smell the neocon brew of lies cooking in your kitchen?

Let me repeat:

neocon = STUPID dumb know-nothing lying idiot.

They still blabber on about how confident they are about how right they are, yet they have been WRONG about EVERYTHING!

+Oil production is at an ALL-TIME low
+There are no WMD's
+Every single political paper game (constitution, voting, blah blah) has not slowed the insurgency one bit.
+Iraq's Army is not ready to take over, nor will it be any time soon.

The Iraiqs are grateful we are rebuilding everything we blew up, and the chaos we brought destroyed, but they do not want us there.

Democracy in Iraq = Muslim Fantatic government.

Rumsfeld: "We know where they (WMD's) are!"
LIE

Powell: "Here are photographs of a chemical weapons lab"
LIE

Bush: "Mission accomplished"
LIE

Are you just here to complain about how horrible the neocons are or are you going to actually do something about it? Soldiers in the field don't give a rats ass about what the neocons or dems or anyone else is doing, so show some respect for them.

See? Just as I said earlier on. We've got Mano3 and Neomega quoting people who have been there, and the people who have been there are giving conflicting accounts.

Therefore we don't know what the hell's going on.

Is that the best you got?

So any time the neocon run Bush administration shows gross incompetance, all a bushist has to do is say:

Support our troops!

and wave their american flag harder.

pathetic!

How was I showing disrespect to the troops!?

educated American: "The dow has not reached it's all time high yet since bush has been in office"

Bushist: Show respect for the soldiers in the field!

educated American: : "but our debt is worse now than it ever has been in American history!"

Bushist: "you leftists need to learn to respect our flag, I bet you want to burn it!"

educated American: : "If we would have spent 300 million on a wall to protect New Orleans, we would have avoided the billions are economy is now suffering!"

Bushist: "Support our troops, we are at war! duh!"

educated American: : "That's it, I'm moving to Canada!"

Bushist: "People like you are the reason the terrorists are going to win!"

educated American: : ????

Who do you think has killed more civilians, the insurgents/terrorists or Americans?

Please. You don't know jack.

And you do? Hardly.

What do you think happened to the WMDs? Personally, I think they were moved to Syria, just like he shipped off his fighter jets to Iran during the first gulf war.

neocon = STUPID dumb know-nothing lying idiot.

And your alternative is? Answer: Nada.

They still blabber on about how confident they are about how right they are, yet they have been WRONG about EVERYTHING!

Actually, they havent. But facts would be wasted on a nutter like you.

Democracy in Iraq = Muslim Fantatic government.

Did you mispell Fantastic or fanantic there? Looks like fantastic!

Its getting close and probably will set a new high in 2006. Today the DOW was at 10,959.31 http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=1479407 and is fast approaching its all time high mark of 11,722.98. Want to make a bet a new high is set this year?

educated American: : "If we would have spent 300 million on a wall to protect New Orleans, we would have avoided the billions are economy is now suffering!"

Why is protecting New Orleans a fed problem? State and local leaders sure havent done much to improve the situation either, but I dont hear you crowing about them.

educated American: : "That's it, I'm moving to Canada!"

I strongly encourage anyone who wants to move to Canada please do so, preferably at the earlier opportunity. I hear Quebec is nice.

Bush is an Idiot. No really, what other president managed to get a sitcom about himself?Sitcom was hilarious, though.

And any time an anti-Bush person says something about Bush it is why Iraq is so horrible and why we should pull out ASAP because we're doing such a bad job there. Blah blah blah.

No worries Mob Boss the Dow isn't a good representation of the U.S. stock market anyhow. It's an evenly weighted index of 30 stocks. Anyone who follows markets knows the S&P 500, Midcap 400 and Russell 2000 are much better representations of the markets.
The decline in the markets and economy were due more in part to the irrational exuberance years of the Clinton administration than anything Bush did.

The polls are quantitative and Iraqis have spoken. They've stated their desire for us to oust Hussein.....overwhelmingly.
Words from the media are purely subjective and are there to sell ads.
What we believe is how we color our views. I'll take the Iraqi people's view.
There's more credibility into this commentary than anything the liberal funded media produces.

I'd suggest a shorter trip to Vancouver over Quebec City for a guy from Seattle. ;)

All they need to do is to send Chuck Norris or Vin Diesel to iraq and the problem will be over.

Well, we want Iraqi people still left alive. If we did this the UN would label us all as war criminals!!!!:D

No, Chuck Norris wouldn't kill innocent people. He'd just roundhouse kick the terrorists and insurgents so hard that they'd crap in their pants just thinking about it.

Hey are you referring to "That's my Bush"? I do remember that sitcom and it was pretty funny. They had to cancel it because the cost of making each episode was astronomical.

For the uneducated let me explain again the difference between a lie and being wrong. Lieing is when you purposely state a falsehood to mislead others. Being wrong is when you believe something is true, but it is false. For example, if you miss a question on a test, you are not a lier, you are simply wrong. In the above cases they were wrong, but were not lieing. Don't misuse the English language.

They were deliberate twists of information. Bush knew the war was not over, Powell knew it was quite possible those were not chemical weapons labs, and Rumsfeld could not possibly know where they were when they did not exist.

LIES.

The only other explanation, would be that Bush, Powell and Rumsfeld, who have had MANY years serving closely with the military, all of the sudden became MORE STUPID than the average person on the street, and SO INCOMPETENT they suddenly forgot everything they had learned while working closely with the United States military.

I love how people rush to the defense of these goons like "they weren't lying, they are just ********, and we will follow them no matter what they do! Because I love America! Don't misjudge them because they are incompetent, their intentions are pure!"

Bush Powell and Rumsfeld are not just some innocent pawns in a game they do not understand. They knew full well the level of manipulation they were attempting to push on the rest of the world.

I'd strongly suggest for anyone who believes in the Iraq War so much to sign up for the Marine Corps and head on over. Once you are done serving your tour, tell me what you think of the "brilliant" tactic the officers have, called, "you be the bait, and we send in the heavy equipment to get the insurgents when you are maimed."

Neomega said:

I disagree. EVERY intelligence agency (to include US, GB, France, Germany, Russia, Egypt, etc.) thought Saddam had WMD. When that many intel people tell you something you tend to believe it (or at least I used to). Obviously they were wrong.

As far as 'mission accomplished', you'll recall that quote came from the sailors of a Navy vessel whose mission was accomplished. Bush just picked up on it. Additionally, the foolish planners thought we could start withdrawing 50K military personnel every month after the end of the war. The was more obviously wrong in forsight, but not a lie.

Don't rewrite history. Monday morning quarterbacking is always accurate.
