how is teaching 2 (or more) sides of a controversial issue indoctrination, indoctrination is when you teach one theory as the only possible explanation and tell people that they are idiots if they think otherwise.

When there are 2 sides, you have a point. There is not 2 sides to the evolution issue. There is science, and there is the rejection of science.

Let's all just thank God for atheists and rational thought. :)

In the words of Ricky Gervais "[And] Thank you to god for making me an atheist!"

I want schools to teach two sides of the theory of gravity. One that says a heavy objects falls faster than a light, and one that says the two objects fall with the same speed.

Hey, Germ Theory's just a theory y'know.

We should also teach that god gives people cancer, that the alignment of the planets causes ill-health, or that someone's four humors are out of balance.

Guys, we should teach MY side to evolution too!

In the beginning, there was a Manta Ray. He then proceeded to create the ocean. Nevermind where the manta ray was actually located, this has little importance. Then, he belched out the land, and with his laser eyeballs he then proceeded to create living things. The end.

It's supported by the exact same amount of scientific evidence! :D

Wouldn't someone who's been taught both sides know?

Maybe no one has ever written an article, book, blog-post, forum-post or song about it.

I *think* there are, like, hundreds if not thousands. But I haven't checked recently. It could be that God created me in this instant with the idea of having read about the subject in the past - even here, and at tedious length - but that this is not in fact the case.

The entire physical universe might be a set-up.
God, for all I know, lies all the time.

Evolutionists always talk about how they have 100% proof of their theory, as if everyone is supposed to know what the proof is, please tell us why creationism is wrong?
I don't understand it either.
No one has ever disproven that the Flying Spaghetti Monster did not make the earth as he is today.
They just assume we all had education!

But where is your proof that this is wrong, I want proof?

Why the double standard ?

You don't demand proof that God exists, you're happy with a very old book, what someone wrote.

Holding others to a higher standard of behavior than you are willing to cede.....why....isn't that unchristian ?

To be fair, asking for evidence of Evolutionary Theory is perfectly acceptable! The theory exists because of mounds of evidence. And scientists need to learn some of the evidence before they can do more work, or else they'd just be repeating done work. Plus, if they learn the theory, they can do science much more quickly.

I'd think that Christians (especially pastors!) should know the evidence, too. When your goal is to worship the Creator, learning about the Creation is pretty important! Worshiping a god that created the universe 6,000 years ago is blasphemous to the real Creator! It would be like publicly crediting Dexter with being your very excellent father ... that would be pretty insulting to your real dad and your real family!

I always wonder why we never see any of the "teach both sides" brigade demanding the inclusion of Lysenkoism in the school curriculum.

Well, unlike many Americans' idea of their country, the UK is explicitly a Christian country and after all the KJV is a famous British product. It's a bit of a silly idea, especially if it costs so much, but it's not an atrocious idea, unlike some.
England, for the record, not the UK. The Church of Ireland, Church of Scotland and the Church in Wales aren't established. Although, ironically enough, its in Scotland and the Six Counties that the fundies retain the largest presence.

The entire physical universe might be a set-up.
God, for all I know, lies all the time.
That's actually a serious concern for some people.

So you are willing to put your hat in with those who are trying to destroy Christianity. :crazyeye:
No one is trying to destroy Christianity. Drop the persecution complex.
I disagree to an extend.

I'd say there's a group of people who are unwittingly trying to destroy Christianity. The group of people who make an effort to define Christianity as a literal interpretation of the Bible. An interpretation which fails scientific scrutiny spectacularly every single time. An interpretation which is impossible to defend via real scientific methods, but at the same time demands to have scientific credentials.

That group of people are destroying Christianity more effectively than atheists (who give a %^%$) ever could.

edit: By the way, this is also the reason that the accusation of Christian bashing really was very much off the mark. Often people here get told off for lumping all sorts of Christians into one homogeneous group. And it's valid criticism because that does happen. But as you can see, it's not atheists, or just atheists who are responsible. In this very thread we see Christians labelling criticism towards Creationists as criticism towards Christians.

Atheism is a lie

I love your Norse mythology picture, but I handily prove it incorrect. It disagrees with the Bible and is therefore evil and wrong. Right?

Seriously. No one wants to destroy christianity. Don't be so "us against them".

But all Christians are creationists, right? And the disproving of one book of the Bible utterly invalidates Jesus's entire message!

I was wondering about metaphors. Does the use of one metaphor put literal interpretations in other parts of the Bible in question?

I can't imagine that even the most ardent Creationist believes the world has 4 corners, or believes the world to have been flat as a tower so tall you could see it all suggests.

If Christianity can't abide the truth and actual evidence, maybe it doesn't derserve to exist.

Do any religions deserve to exist?

If by "deserve", you mean "an unalienable right", no, of course not. If you mean "the freedom to indulge in any lawful behaviour", then of course.
