I was under the impression that everything would catch on fire before it got to that concentration

Oxygen toxicity is a problem for diving, especially with nitrox. A partial pressure of 1.6 Bars of oxygen will cause immediate effects, so say roughly a dive of 6m on 100% oxygen. A partial pressure of .5 Bars of oxygen can cause long term vascular damage for long exposures. The latter would be a 50% oxygen mixture at sea level.

A high oxygen level by itself won't cause combustion, it just increases the likely hood of an explosion due to rapid combustion if something catches fire.

And that odd corn derived sugar you americans insist on using probably even worse.

We don't actually like it. It's just cheap because we're lazy.

Aww, but eating too much is so much fun!

Don't blame me, I'm not the diabetes.

I'm becoming a true believer in eliminating as much fat and sugar from my diet as I can, just aint got the willpower to quit cold turkey.

You don't need to avoid them entirely.

Added sugar really is quite bad, especially in aggregate. There's sugar in everything, because it fools us into preferring sugar+food instead of instead of the 'just food'. It's a failure of our ability to control our evolutionarily-derived urges.

There really should be 'some' reason why diabetes and obesity is hitting earlier and earlier, and sugar really is part of that story. Even if you're super-fit, spikes of sugar wear down your pancreas and make adult-onset diabetes more likely. And we certainly have a really hard time eating enough healthy food each day, and sugars make it much harder to squeeze in those extra calories.

Medical advancements are currently not going fast enough to offset the harms of modern sugar consumption. We really might have unhinged this trend.

I knew about this years ago, thankfully I'm not a huge fan of junk food and don't like things to be too sweet as it is. However, I do try and eat a lot of fruit and mostly drink apple and orange juice.

I never drink soda, or even really eat much processed food at all. Maybe a candy bar or a couple of scoops of ice cream a few times per month. I'm not too worried.

Nah, I won't change.

Also, isn't it an unspoken rule to not use Fox News as a source here? :p

Fox news was just referencing the CBS investigation. Fox news is perfectly acceptable for non political topics. I like their articles in their health section and scitech sections.

No it isn´t. Too much of anything isn´t good for you. So neither huge nor news...

I disagree. And I'm really, really tired of that saying. Too much air isn't bad for you. Too much sex isn't bad for you. Too much exercise isn't bad for you. Too much love isn't bad for you. Too much education isn't bad for you. Too much money isn't bad for you. Too much (many) friends isn't bad for you. Too much happiness isn't bad for you.

Anyways if you read the link they say sugar is addictive. People can't just willingly regulate their sugar intake. Especially when these sleazy companies put it in everything. I have a sweet tooth myself, and can't resist sweet things when they are put in front of my face. It drives me crazy when girls at work bring in muffins or donuts or such crap. I can't resist. It's like bringing in crack to work in front of a crack addict.

It's easy to say to just take it in moderation. And most Americans most likely do believe they take it in moderation, but I am sure they don't. Sugar in the old days was for dessert, something you only had once in a while. It's not something that should be in every food you eat every meal.

I for one, am boycotting ketchup.

They all can be if you take them to the extreme.

Everything you just said is wrong except about happiness and, to an extent, education.

Yes it is..
Whether the chance of having too much air, sex or education is likely to happen or not doesn't matter. 'Too much' is by default bad for you because it means that it is more than you can handle.

Well, to be fair, sugar is closer to 'alcohol' than 'exercise' on the scale of "little is okay, too much is bad". You certainly can overdo exercise, but overdoing alcohol or sugar is way more likely and easier.

ofcourse and I am not disputing that. It is far easier, for most people, to have too much sugar than too much exercise.
However for me, atm, is it far more easier to get too much exercise than too much sugar since I'm suffering from a knee injury.

My point was that it is false to state that "too much of anything isn´t good for you" is untrue.

It doesn't apply to every single thing ever, but it applies to all the things it's ever said in reference to. Yes, that's circular, the point is that it's true when it matters. It's not practically true about broccoli but nobody ever (reasonably) claims that it is.

Was that coherent?

I think I get your point. It's impossible to have too much life or too much intelligence, I suppose.

Sleazy goddamn companies! Making stuff people want to buy! Bastards!

You said before that you are willingly regulating your sugar intake. Either you can give up ketchup or you can't resist cake. Man up bro.

I agree with the gist of your point, but there's likely a lot to condemn in the 1%ers involved in sugar. I can understand marketing a product people want, but:
- lobbying for subsidies for your sugars
- lobbying against subsidies for healthier food
- lobbying against mandatory information provision
- obfuscating science regarding the health effects of sugar

These would all be detestable. Taking advantage of people is one thing, something I quite disagree with. Going above-and-beyond to chase the buck, the almighty dollar, is scummy
