The Democratic Caliphate.

I think we could start thinking on a provisory solution from this weekend if we have no news from the Caliph. Tomorrow will complete 1 month that the council of 1189 A.D. was opened.

The caliphate is on its most perilous moment, and after it there will be only Greatness and Prosperity waiting for us.

Al-Noob and Baseball Pie are sitting idle while they could already be managing new provinces that the end of the threats will surely grant us.

By now I would like to see the opinions of both the Counselors and the followers of this story. To help you on that I'll put the available info here:

The game is on hiatus waiting for the council of 1189 to decide how each aspect of the caliphate must behave. The council was opened on the 25th of August by our Glorious Caliph Sanguivorant. Since around 3 weeks ago we have been seeing the caliph with less frequency, and he hasn't decided what to do with the council that's already finished.

This means our gameplayer (and Caliph) is missing and the game is on hiatus for 1 month tomorrow. That could mean we must wait indefinetly, but I actually own a duplicate of the savegame and the SVN version that plays it. The Caliph gave me the savegame to make better decisions for the management of my Province (Egypt).

This means we can play the game, even if Sanguiv is missing. While this isn't a nice solution, it is a solution better then none. Sanguiv has already disappeared before, but never like this after the Council has been stablished. While we should wait for him because it's his story, many players may lose their interest if the game keeps stopped.

And as far as I know, this is the IAAR with most active players around here, and the one where the players have the most power/duties. A Tryst with Destiny and the Ironclad Oath may easily surpass the Democratic Caliphate if it keeps on hiatus like this.

So with this you may give opinions and discuss about the future of this great story, and let us see if we can reach an agreement over what to do. Just to remind all, there are 3 roles being discussed here that are Sanguiv's: The Storyteller, The Gameplayer and the Caliph (as leader of the council and the Caliphate). Those don't need necessarily to be in the hands of a single person.

 I love how everyone else has Arabicized names, but mine is still the same.

Seriously though, I think what we should do is this:

If you can, play the story up to the point while taking pictures. We'll wait a certain time, say 10 days, while you have the compiled pictures and story. If Sanguiv doesn't come back by that certain time, then you could post the update in his stead. If he does come back, you have the pics and story all ready, making his life a lot easier. Just my idea.

I say if he doesn't return by 12:00 P.M tomorrow, we should hold a vote in the group for who becomes Storyteller, and who becomes Gameplayer.

12 PM is too early IMO. Let's wait another week, or at least five days. It's more likely he'll return a sunday because it's a public holiday.

This feels like some sort of arm chairs around the table meeting where the most powerful men in the empire gather, bringing their cats, stroking their beards and plotting the over throw of he Caliph, next week because tomorrow would be too inconvenient. Not that this is a bad thing. It is a bad ass mental image.

But. I have one question- who is going to write the story?

First, we would need to see which of the current members has the most experience and time.

Sorry for the double post

I have made a thread where we can discuss hiatus ideas in the story group forum.

I would like to know VGL's and Al-Noob's opinions on the matter. They've been with us for quite some time on this council, so I think their opinions are important too. Let's see if we can decide everything until Sunday so we may restart the game by the beginning of the week.

I meant we should wait as long as it takes. He'll (hopefully) be back.

I think doing this may destroy this story. We are already waiting for a month since the council was opened.

And Ales brought an interesting info: He has been logging into Civ Fanatics frequently (e.g. going to his page right now I see: Last Activity: Sep 27, 2014 05:26 AM, that is 8 hours ago), which is quite strange. Maybe someone else in his pc comes to CFC and automatically is logged in his account.

But anyways, last new he gave us about the council was I will update the list eventually, and play out the turn. The story should be done in the next 24 or so hours.. That was 20 days ago. And his last appearance was:

Sorry for the extremely long delay and the promise that was not kept.

Again, I am trying to figure out the best schedule so that I can complete my work and have personal time.

This last week has been a mess for me, going into buildings that I don't know, trying to find classes, entering programs and whatnot.

I should have a much more routine schedule starting next week, which means that there will be regular times that I go on.

Again, sorry for the delay.

SouthernKing, I will invite you to the group, but I have to go somewhere in about an hour, so I will let the council decide what position best suits our circumstances.

Which was 14 days ago.

If something terrible happened, and his account keeps logging in, he could have told us about it. But he didn't.

So not to let this story die because of absence, I proposed we conduct the Caliphate with an interim government for the time being, while Sanguiv is missing. If we let it the way it is, then this story is going to be dead in no time. It's hard to keep interest in something that vanishes for a long time and reappears from time to time.

That's why I ask you to reconsider your opinion, for the good of this story.

If he's been on and he hasn't updated the story just let him do his thing. I know what I say is probably not the popular opinion here but just Sanguivorant rest, maybe he's been too busy to be able to play the game and make posts.

If we knew what we were waiting for, then I could agree. But the total darkness that is shrouding this situation is confusing and killing the spirit of this story.

He can do whatever he wants, but he could tell us that. If he can't do this, then something is terribly wrong. I just can't part ways with this story yet, and absence is the worst reason for me to let it die.

Who ever said he won't be back? Either way, I'm done here.

I ask you the same question, who ever said he won't be back? But does his return unconditionally mean this story will go on? Do you remember the Venetian Realpolitik? Mrrandomplayer never said it was dead, and it died anyway.

I know I am not a part of this story, but has anyone tried messaging him? Not to tell him to come back, but to ask why the long hiatus.

No thank you! Last time I messaged someone a simple question about their story, I got virtual yelled at for taking things too seriously!
