The Iron Will and Positivity Thread

I am concluding that it may not be morally permissible for me to fly on airplanes anymore.

same. I've discussed this issue with many peers and lots of them agree. my last vacations have been airplane-less and I plan to keep it that way. sometimes, of course, I will do a morally wrong thing. I do want to fly to Japan and China, and I will at some point. I will never take an airplane again to travel somewhere in central Europe, even though it is the cheapest and most convenient option. It's just wrong.

Carbon footprint too large. Most places I want to fly to, you can take a train to - takes longer, but you can do it. There is also the matter of 'overtourism' affecting parks and historical cities and landmarks.

and you're (assuming you fly economy as cheap as possible, like I do) also

1 supporting horrible play, bad hiring practice and mistreatment of workers
2 helping the aviation industry
3 thus actively destroying all the wildlife that was destroyed to build the airport
4 all the wildlife around the airport, which either dies off or suffers
5 you're even screwing over all the people who live in close vicinity to airports, because of noise pollution
6 and actual pollution.

now for something more positive! I've been eating a lot cleaner than I used to, been a lot more productive lately and finished some major projects, working out more regularly, but shorter. still smoking, still unhappy about it :D

I've been eating a little better, not a lot, but a little bit.

Train travel is pretty delightful, even in the US. In China it is even better.Smoking is a terribly difficult habit to break, but the sooner you stop, the better off you will be.

I try and take the train when I go to Chicago (the only place I tend to travel to where the train is even an option) from Minnesota, but unfortunately it is only one train a day and not very convenient when I need to be in Chicago by 10 am.

Well, I guess you will need to go at a leisurely place and go a day early!! :)

I want to quit biting my nails but I don't even realize I'm doing it most of the time. I have used the nail biting bittering agent but I then get it in everything I eat or drink. Maybe I should give it another go.

Put scotch tape over the tips.

train travel is pretty delightful indeed, but I am on the train 12 hours per week (4 hours every time I go to university, 3x per week) and I don't need any more trainy time in my life

I've traveled by train sometimes, but I do prefer flying (but my favorite is by car when I can help it) Sometimes distances are too great, and I can either fly for three hours or drive for 15 or more. I find trains can be stressful, because they're so chaotic and busy, while planes are just so much more organized.

I only fly first class if I can help it, even for short trips. I find there's such a dramatic difference in stress that it's totally worth the extra price of my ticket.

My weight loss plateaued for the last 5 weeks after dropping 25 lbs the first 5 months of the year so I really need to tighten up my diet. It's mostly just parties, every weekend a party! I probably consume 1000 calories in alcohol alone over the course of a weekend (3 drinks a day, 3 days, sounds about right), not to mention all the snacks and desserts. So I guess I'll just have to forgo. And add a little extra cardio. I really want to see what I look like after another 10 lbs and go from there. I think I might be happy with it.

damn civvver I really feel you. lately I've tried to completely cut drinking any beer, but I just love my everyday addictions. nothing like coming home after a long day, going by the Kiosk and grabbing a cold one, having a little chat and heading home.

I feel like even if I restrict my diet, restrict my drinking, and try to work out more, losing weight is still really hard for me. I used to think """scientifically""" that this was all just psychological, calories in, calories out, baby! But lately I have read about fat cells and how they basically **** you in the *** for being fat even if it was decades ago, and how human metabolism can be so drastically different and it just ticks me off.

eating is for me one of the greatest pleasures on earth, and I don't want to police my own pleasures, I don't want to eat "clean", that's miserable. I want fried chicken and homemade ice tea and lots of freaking carbohydrates.

this thead is now officially the Iron Will, Positivity and Venting thread!

I like to travel, especially overseas, but it's a pretty rare thing for me. Until they institute the heavy carbon taxes and long vacations needed to make passenger travel aboard glorious windjammers a thing, I'm afraid I can't get to Europe any other way than by air.

I'm trying to lose maybe six pounds by eating only 1200 to 1500 calories a day, but it hasn't been easy to stick with it. Birthday party here, work meetup there...

Been trying to find lowercal options for drinking, but the alcohol itself just winds up being a lot. They have the carbonated flavored seltzer water things, but they're kind of expensive and you need like 12 of the suckers.

I'm struggling with my weight again, mostly because I keep going back to alcohol. And when I do, I tend to drink too much, sadly. I've also been sampling my own baking way too much (that'll be easier as summer's approaching and it gets too hot to bake)

I've found the best way to avoid eating or drinking certain things is to not keep them in my home. I've been a chocoholic my whole life and for the first time I've stopped keeping it in my home, save for some bags of cookie mix that I'm too lazy to bake. Who knew laziness was healthy, after all?

I still have beer in my fridge but once I've drunk it all, I don't think I'll restock unless I have company. 200+ extra calories a day aren't helpful.

there just is nothing to be done about it. unless you want to IV alcohol or shoot it up your.. you're gonna have to live with it makign you fat.

and if it wasn't bad enough:

beer makes men grow larger breasts. its mostly hops, but other stuff, too. it also increases abdonimal fat, which is literally the worst fat there is and probably one of the biggest factors in cardiovascular diseases, but also many other diseases you wouldn't really relate to belly fat.

when I was younger they always told me that a little fat was healthy, better immune system and stuff. turns out they kinda screwed me over, because even a little beer belly can be pretty harmful. other fat not so much.

chocolate in itself ain't really unhealthy, it's the opposite. I personally keep both 80% and 90% stocked at all times. what makes chocolate bad for you is the fact that its loaded with sugar and milk protein/fat. easily circumvented by buying proper chocolate products.

ironically enough, if we had been doing chocolate right, it might even be a tool to help with weight loss, instead of being a cause for weight gain.

It seems to me that there is an endless stream of nutrition studies pouring out, often not peer-reviewed and which often clash with one another. All I can conclude is that literally everything is unhealthy for human consumption save kale, nuts, beans, and quinoa grown in total isolation from the modern world by an obscure sect of vegan monks and watered with dewdrops gently gathered from the grass of a sacred elfin grove.

These cost at least a talent of silver per basket.
