The shogun strikes back!

I would get monarchy after HBR before going to lit. HR is worth it, and we should be able to trade for it after teching through priesthood.

I didn't touch the EP so it's whatever it was at before I took over.

shyuhe, that was great passive aggression.

Just to echo a few things to show that I'm still following : HBR next, and then CoL, monarchy, or lit... well they all have their benefits, and i'm hoping the next set will enlighten us. Certainly if we want to take out Monty very soon, not lit... BUT, we do have a few more site to settle, so now might be a fair time for consolidation, gap filling, and wonders.

Moai - not the island, surely. It will take forever to build! I think I prefer it in the south, but either way will do.

Calendar - I don't think there's any rush, not this set at least.

I'm still uncertain of the fascination with courthouses... Boosting the capital with HR is very powerful, especially since it has an academy. Courthouses take lots of hammers that would be better spent on military, especially if we're going to go on the offense. But if others want CoL after HBR, I'll defer to the team.

We should hold off on starting the Moai until the stone is hooked up anyways so I think we'll have another set to decide where to put it.

about courts: I find them far better than markets on a military game (to be honnest, offline I never build them except in shrine cities or later for US abuse, I build science multi, prod multi, courts, and troops, gold when really nothing to do :)): first maintenance increase in all cities when you add one more to the empire. Then the 2 EPs points that they provide are very valuable... Finally they are cheaper than a market. I like to have courts in my core when going on the offense... That being said, I will obviously go for monarchy first (HR, HR, HR ) as I believe like you that Kyoto deserves to be big (lot of good tiles).

Agreed with Moai :goodjob:
I'll try play today so we don't talk about the same stuffs during two weeks

Cheers

edit: I got material troubles (graphic card dead) this week end... I hope I can make it for tonight... apologies for the delay :)

Hi :hatsoff:,

I played till Litterature... a builder round :)
Techs went: HBR -> COL -> Aesthetics -> Litterature. Traded for Monarchy, Calendar and the religious cheap techs (the trade suggested in Shyuhe's report).
A very big Shaka is forming... we must think about this

More details:

IHT: We make peace with Monty:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0841.jpg

t178: We settle Nara:

Spoiler :

HBR finishes and we start on COL...

t180: :smoke: I switch to HR now (I had forgotten but no big deal as no cities were at their happy cap anyway :))

t181: We settle Nagoya:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0844-1.jpg

We still need to decide what to do with the GG and the next scientist (philo bulb?)

Once again, sorry for blocking the game...

Roster duty:

Raskolnikov -> just played...
Paulus -> up!
Diamondeye -> on deck!

Wow Monty is really really backwards. We can definitely take him down with elephants + catapults (and a few axes). Do we want to build any of the wonders that are open? GL would be good to pump up the GS birth rate. I don't know if any of the other wonders are worth building if we're going to gear for war.

I would attempt the great lib in Kyoto, putting the scientists off while doing so (needs worker turns to chop forests and finish the mines though). Even if we fail, the cash would be good... Gilga has already literrature though...

Agreed about Monty, let's phantapult him :hammer: (a smiley with an elephant and a cat would be awesome...)

Cheers

It seems I always get the dirty jobs in the succession games I play lately. Whereas others get to have the blood of other peoples on their hands, my job in this turnset - and many others - was to get my hands bloody... with the blood of our own people. I ALWAYS get war prep turnsets, and in this time and game there is only one way to prepare. Bust out... the WHIP!

Oh, wait. I seem to be confusing SG's lately. That was another bloodthirsty SG I am in. I'm sorry for the whip anger but you'll remember that you'll get nowhere against Monty by softbuilding troops. Sometimes you gotta be cruel. ;)

Osaka and Kagoshima bore the brunt of the whips though I whipped some on the front lines as well. Tokyo and Kyoto were mostly left alone since those cities had their resources best spent elsewhere.

The AP was built. I voted for Charlemagne, he's the one closest to our borders so we want to keep him happy a bit. Besides, I'm NOT going to vote Ramesses in after what he did to us last game, Charle's just the lesser of two evils.
Civ4ScreenShot0141.jpg

Kyoto was only whipped once. But you'll probably agree with me that that whip was totally worth it. Behold... the Great Library of Kyoto!
Civ4ScreenShot0144-1.jpg

And what else... demands. Demands, demands, demands. Once again a glorious chance to properly roleplay Toku.

Shaka demands we convert to Confu. Denied. That would piss off the Burger King on our borders.
Shaka demands we dow Gil. Denied. Gil's the closest thing we have to a friend.
Gilga demands we dow Shaka. Denied. I'm not suicidal.
Monty demands Aesthetics. Denied, laughed at, humiliated, and beheaded the messengers. 10 turns of peace is going to benefit him more than us. :D
Civ4ScreenShot0143-1.jpg

While we had good reasons to not give in to demands I admit I was getting irritated by the time Gil came along. Someday I'll give in to a 'stop trading' demand just to shut someone up. But then again we're Toku so we're free to ignore any obnoxious requests for whatever they want.

On another note, Shaka declared on Gil (shows how much help confucianism is with him  ) and Charle made peace. Ramesses is still at war with Monty.

Whoever is next... get ready to kick Aztec ass. You might notice you have a few more ellies and cats now. ;)

Should we dub you "Master Slaver" or something? ;)

Kagoshima can actually get 17 base hammers (2 grass hills + plains hill + iron mine + city center) at size 6 so it's probably better to not whip that city in the future. Osaka on the other hand, can't do squat until it gets the Moai

I'll have to peek to see how many troops you whipped up later.

I don't know if you did this already, but Kyoto should switch to max growth/commerce now that the GL is done. It'll need a market and lots of MP for HR. I think it can support our empire by itself while all the other cities busy themselves for war.

Nice round MS (your new nickname Paulus ;))...

We need to find something to do for our next scientist (4 turns). Only Shaka has philo so that would be my choice. We can perhaps trade feudalism with it at some point.
There are hammers stored in the courthouse of Kagoshima (61 iirc), so the next player could finish it (if there are no military emergency ofc).
About Kyoto: I am thinking this city could use the NE (for max output of the Great Library)... thoughts?

Roster duty:

Paulus -> yet again a build up round
Diamondeye -> expecting Monty to declare... and up!
Rolo -> on deck!

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

It's looking good, or bad if you are Monty. :) CS and a dead neighbour sound good to me, but what's in the future? Bulbing philo is ok, but the gloss has faded a little with Shaka having it already. It might prove good for trading tho, and puts us toward lib... speaking of which, I assume we'll have a run at lib while finishing off Monty and sorting out his old cities, so what will we take? The standard nationalism sort of game, just keeping a military edge and taking chunks off the AI, or has someone got something more exotic in mind? In any case, heading up thru edu, etc is fine with me, as unis/oxford are always good. Otherwise, we could get some good mileage out of samurai, so could head to guilds for a knight supplement. <- sounds like something in a multi-vitamin tablet.

I'm in the process of moving house, and that means I also have no internet for a short time, but I can keep in touch from a mate's house, so can let you know about being available for play.

I don't think bulbing philo is worth it. We'll have CS to trade around if we really need a tech and it's not like we're going to be running pacifism. I would rather save the GS for an education bulb. We can always bulb philo later if the need arises but I think we're teching more than fast enough right now.

War with Monty. A favourite discipline!

Now, start off softie... A really nifty AP vote comes up:

Civ4ScreenShot0750.jpg

Vote yes ofcourse, we need to limit Shaka!

And Carl Frederich Gauss is born in Kyoto, and stays there, settled:

Civ4ScreenShot0751.jpg

With the 75% modifier, this guy will provide some needed beakers in a time of need!

... Back to the AP vote:

Civ4ScreenShot0752.jpg

Woohoo, perhaps even better! +5:mad: in all of Shakas buddhacities.

Now, one has to ask, is Charlemagne a moron? And one has to answer oneself: Yes he is:

Civ4ScreenShot0753.jpg

Dude, what the ?? Afaik, he's getting a good beating already, why make it worse on yourself, BurgerKing?

Charly quickly loses his little bitty bordertown towards us, so I keep an axe and an elly around there for safety.

Gogo war against Monty! Finally!

Civ4ScreenShot0754.jpg

Woot, no casualties (no, not even cats)!

While we heal (and fight back Montys horse units):
Civ4ScreenShot0755.jpg

:wallbash:

Arh, what the hell... Now, I finally got enough of the Chinook... And besides, they have a Worker!

Civ4ScreenShot0756.jpg

We then proceed to take the worker. Oh yeah! :cooool:

:twitch: Shaka is a demaning... Fellow. I have to give him Aesth:

Civ4ScreenShot0757.jpg

I then proceed to look at his techs...

Civ4ScreenShot0758.jpg

Damn. Beaten to CS. Ah well, we can trade it to most AIs anyway. I am more concerned that everything is redded out.

Aaand... AP time!

Civ4ScreenShot0759.jpg

Vote NO, ofcourse, we need this continent to be as warlike as possible, but...

Civ4ScreenShot0760.jpg

Notice Shakas incompetence. He still has his  since he didnt vote yes (although from the 5 votes, thats prolly only 1 town).

Finally reached CS after two turns on 100%; Stopping this turn:

Civ4ScreenShot0761.jpg

Fixed the pic a bit for emphasis. I think we should try to get our fingers on MC-Machinery before going for Edu now.

The situation on the front:

Civ4ScreenShot0762.jpg

... And on tech:

:hatsoff:
That's it for this time. Next guy for Montybashing, step up
