The shogun strikes back!

A slow builder set. I think the next player is set to build more military and we can declare war in two sets or so.

IT: I don't understand the walls... So I cancel most of them. I instead queue some courthouses as some cities are costing ~13+ gpt per turn.

Not much in between after this:

Turn 269 - Ramesses is a funny guy:

Turn 270 - guilds is finished. Here's the only available trade for it:
Civ4ScreenShot0136.jpg

Or we can take compass. UoS was built so paper isn't very useful.

Techs:

Relations:

And HRE's SoD:
Civ4ScreenShot0139.jpg

It's quite large. I think we're going to need a fairly large army to take it apart, although our catapults should take care of his knights (i.e., collateral them to death).

Kagoshima is almost done with the HE, and I settled a GG there. Kyoto can build troops after the grocer is done, and there's a GS right outside. We can bulb philo (not useful) or save it for a GA. Or whatever. I also revolted to bureau towards the start of my set.

There's another GG near Tenochtitlan - that's for a medic. Feel free to pick a unit and make it a medic.

And I just realized I played more than 15 turns. Oops. :blush:

Hi :hatsoff:,

nicely done Shyuhe, and no pb with the additional turns :).

I'd rather keep the GS for a GA or a PP bulb rather than the philo one.
I agree we need more troops to take on HRE... more trebs and some catapults would be needed to be safe. :)
I think the Pericles trade is good as he is th eonly one without guild anyway, we can also trade for some happy resources (Pericles and Ramses iirc) to increase the caps.

[:whipped:]Why are we putting cottages in production cities? (Kagoshima and the phants one). Farms with the whip and workshops later are both better suited to these cities.[/:whipped:]

Also, we need to whip those courthouses in ex Aztec land and put the FP somewhere to lower the costs...
Finally what about the tech path? Are we going straight for rifling :yumyum:, or do we make a pitstop at nationalism?

Thoughts?

Roster duty:

Shyuhe -> just played!
Sweetacshon -> up!
Raskolnikov -> on deck!
Paulus -> :eek: will perhaps actually use troops instead of build them!

Cheers,
Raskolnkov

Sweetacshon has been gone for a week now; I'd suggest putting him on autoskip until he returns.

I'd say go straight for Rifling and pick up Nat along the way.

And I FINALLY get some of the action? Cool!

In this case, can you grab the save? I can't play this week end most likely as I am not at home

same here!

:blush: If you play next round, it's unlikely... perhaps you want to wait for Sweetacshon finally :lol:

Cheers

Idea on using the GS: We can trade Paper with Peri; after that he'll part-bulb Edu. We could first research Edu until he'll bulb the rest, see what we can get in trades then bulb him.

Fun fact: Did you know we have proven the world round without even building a single ship? :D

Well... I got distracted from war preparation. Why? My edu bulb turned out so well... because no AI got it, so we now have a monopoly on Education, Philosophy in the pocket... and you know what that means. Liberalism! (And with Toku none the less! :D )

I start by redoing some tile micro. While I'm usually not the one to complain about poor micro (mainly because I've screwed up in that regard a fair number of times as well) I'd prefer next time if Kyoto gets to work all the big tiles. It's not a bureau capital for nothing!

Both the GS and the GG are saved. The GS I have plans for (bulbing the last part of Edu for the Lib gambit), the GG is being saved for a medic.

I also make the trade with Peri: It's in his favour, but I don't care about that. He was willing to throw in Mono as well but that's just a WFYABTA-inducing garbage tech.

And I get a lot of trades into place. I like trading health or useless wonder resources (Peri gets marble) for GPT. Anything to get our economy running. Anything!

I've mostly been adding samurai and trebuchets (plus a few knights thrown in as well) to the stack, and building economical infrastructure in the former Aztec lands. We should by now have courthouses in most of the Aztec cities.

Gilgamesh has by now voluntarily vassaled himself to Shaka. And immediately after that Shaka started getting pushy...

Civ4ScreenShot0179.jpg

Paper for you? Well, okay. You're the only one who hasn't got it yet, and if that doesn't mean an attack from you that's okay. We can call Ramesses' bluff, but I don't trust Shaka with a vassal behind him. Even without that he's prepared to march his armies across the entire continent for a silly demand. So, in contrast to my usual diplomatic policy of the 'continuously raised middle finger', I gave in. There's a first for everything.

The Burger King still got the 'raised middle finger'-policy, though.

Civ4ScreenShot0177.jpg

And there was of course the obligatory religious leader vote. We abstained: Charlie still needs 90 more votes, so no problems there... yet. We need to spread Buddhism around a bit, though; we do have a monastery at Hurrian, I've queued up a missionary there.

Civ4ScreenShot0178.jpg

I'm reasonably positive we're not getting screwed by some AI halfway edu or something like that... whenever I try and offer Edu just to see what they will give me for it, I get offers of Banking-Music-Drama-Monotheism. In short, nobody is even thinking of education, and we can get the free tech from liberalism.

The way I see it Lib has us more to offer than just the usual free technology; because it's such a religious hornet's nest around here, FR is the way to go to prevent conversion demands, get bonuses for every religion that has spread to us and get bonus science to boot.

Our army versus Charlie's:

And the tech screen. Note how nobody has Education yet. ;)

Hi peeps. Sorry I've been gone for so long (insert country music tune here). The move took forever, as did my new ISP. Luckily we're progressing at a relaxed pace. :p

I can probably take it, assuming my ISP's "connection" email isn't a hoax, when I get home tonight.... of course I'll have to do a bit of jigging about, as usual with a new connection, so at latest, it'll be tomorrow.

Nicely played, btw. :)

Yeap nicely played Paulus,

do we wait for liberalism to hit Charly? (Jar jar: mesa say no)
And what tech do we go for: PP? Or do we try for Replecable parts?

(Messy) Roster:

Paulus -> just played!
Sweetacshon -> up!
Raskolnikov -> on deck!
DE, Rolo, Shyuhe -> waiting their turn! :p

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

Hi :),

Sweetachshon has failed to got it, so I will play 15 turns tonight... :scan:

Cheers

edit: hum I see your last post now Sweet... can you tell us if you can play today or tomorrow then? tx

Yep, fair enough too. My new ISP took 48 hrs longer than they promised - that's what I get for picking a cheap one. Many apologies for posting a "can play" before I can play. :shake::suicide: for my poor form. Anyway, I'm all ready to go again now, and will go after you RRR.

edit: Oh right, the game :lol: Well we could be a little more ambitious than nationalism from lib, but it's safe, and drafting samurai is just a hoot! :)

no pb... who never had troubles with ISP :rolleyes:

Actually I stopped one turn before liberalism so we can choose together. But after trading education (Shaka offered drama and gold so that meant he was very close from it, same as Gilgamesh...) for Gunpowder (Charly), Bank, theater and music (Pericles), we can take economics of liberalism. No one have it (while Charly and Gilga both have already nationalism), and the free GM could be used for a GA in order to switch civics (FR/FS/FM?)... Then we could aim toward rifling while killing Charly (I declared shortly after he traded us gunpowder as he started on military tradition)... and Ramses :lol:
Not only he tryed again to sneak an AP win, but he declared on us on Charly's request... [pissed] die, Ramses, die! note: Shaka wasn't willling to declare on Ramses or Charly against education... :(
Other things to comment: two GG were born during the set, one was settled in the Moai city, the other is sitting near the HE (while Sargon was made a samurai medic)... so what to do with Sun Tzu?

Current situation at the front lines:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0879.jpg

There is a decent egyptian stack incoming so most of the troops in the recently captured city should go to kill it.
Also, I stopped building samurais for a pike/musket combo as the HRE UU actually eats phants and maces :(
Finally I noted some possible cities if we feel like building settlers (really not a priority though)

Roster duty:

DE -> up!
Rolo -> on deck!

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

A few comments:

Kyoto should be working grassland mines, not grassland windmills. We need replaceable parts for windmills to be even remotely close in efficiency. Two grass windmills = 4 food, 2 hammers, 2 coins, grassland mine + grassland farm = 4 food, 3 hammers. Kagoshima has more base production than Kyoto because we blew up all those mines...

We need to build more elephants in anticipation of facing cuirassiers. Plus, elephants upgrade to cuirassiers. Samurai will still help protect our stack against maces and can pick up CR promotions. I'm not sure why the samurai are all promoted drill right now...

I would still take nationalism off of liberalism. Economics is not very useful right now. If we want a GP so badly, we should run some specs in Kyoto (until we can get rid of those windmills). We can pop one out in 17 turns if we hurry it.

FS is not useful at this point. Nationalism is far better (drafted protective muskets). Likewise, FM sucks because we have no foreign trade routes right now. Better to adopt mercantilism in true Toku fashion. I don't like FR either. I'd rather go theocracy/Confucian right now for the extra promos. The two Buddhists hate us anyways so there's no point playing nice with them any more. I'd rather make Shaka and Gilgamesh happier with us.

Hum, all good comments, not in my best form yesterday :blush:... but we did need few muskets to protect phants and maces from the HRE UU. About the windmills: until democraty we can whip so the loss in production is not that obvious, and I assume that we'll have RP soon so I am not sure we should replace them (you do agree that they are far better than mines after RP right, moreover if drafting/whipping?)... but you are right that putting them now was a mistake... sorry about that.

I like economics because we could start a GA right away to change civics and increase our commerce/production. Perhaps we can trade it against nationalism to gilga (not sure of that one really), so we get all the techs in one shot. If the trade is not possible and the team doesn't value the GA much, I am ok with taking nationalism :)

Cheers
