Any suggestions on a graphics card in the 400-500 dollar price range that isn't having the unholy daylights scalped out of it? My current one is finally dying after 5 years of service.

The problem is that my current/former card was a R9 390, and I was hoping to get a substantial upgrade. Paying 200 dollars for something that's only slightly better doesn't feel good.
Thanks for the suggestion though, it's an option I didn't think of.
The problem is that the Nvidia 3000 series is so new you cant get them, and the 2000 series cards are being sold at astronomically silly prices. What should be $500 cards are $1399 and more. It's outrageous. The same thing is happening with the Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT. Great cards, but you can't find one, and if you can, they are outrageously priced too.
I can see the 580 not being much of an upgrade to the 390, so of course, that doesn't make much sense to do that. An Nvidia 1060 0r 1070 would give you a decent amount of performance, but the prices on those are jacked up something fierce too. If I were you, I would wait a little while and see how the market shakes out.
Blame bitcoin for inflated prices. My GTX 1080 Ti is certainly not new, but is excellent.
