They are useless parasites either way. The idea of monarchy is heinous and requires careful grooming of the worst traits humanity has to offer on a generational scale. It forces a class divide and indoctrinates subjects from birth that there's a class of human inherently better than the rest and should be served on. In history, a majority of rebellion against nobility ends up in simply replacing the original families with new ones. The system itself simply changes hands. It poisons all conflict, all progress. The only good noble is one who isn't.

It is a relic that should be done away with. We never needed monarchy. We especially don't need it now. Could not care less about tourism dollars. Their existence is a blemish.
The bolded part reminds me of the pack of sociopaths who are currently running Alberta. It's escaped their tiny little brains that they are merely highly-paid public servants whose job is to serve the public - including the people who are underage, people who did not vote for them, and people who are not wealthy enough to give them copious amounts of hush money and bribes. They serve us. We do not serve them. And can you imagine the mess Canada would be in if the Governor-General did not have the authority to dissolve Parliament if things got in an untenable situation?

As for royalty, bowing and curtsying are no longer required (though are considered polite), and if the Queen popped into my home unexpectedly, I'd offer her hospitality. Not because she's the Queen, but because I grew up with little old ladies, and it's just polite to offer them (or any company) tea or whatever else you might have, even if it's just a glass of water.

If my MLA, on the other hand, were to drop in unexpectedly, I'd tell her off and then tell her to go to hell. No glass of water offered. She's one of the worst political hypocrites I have ever seen, and in nearly 40 years of being a voter plus being actively interested for many years before that, that's saying something.

Well, that's your fault, not ours.

Besides, it is a British thing and mostly none of our business.
Given how the UK's loose political structure, mediæval corporations and so on constitute, effectively, a robber state that is the laundering centre for international organised crime (including that curious thing that are shell companies in former colonies/Commonwealth countries and also the Channel Islands, and unaccountable banks and so on), it IS everybody's business, because it's basically a piratical state.

Here here!
There, there.

It gets way in the hell too much ******* attention in the US.

Here here!
American interest in The Queen and her family is a different problem entirely and it is one that is a money maker for the Brits. Good for them. It is not unlike some of the European interest in the American West. Americans do worship celebrity. If one is interested in British history, one cannot help but get caught up in the monarchy past and present.

Well, that's your fault, not ours.
Hear! Hear!

...or a bunch of dumbasses crashing into each other with helmets. Or a bunch of serial liars promising to fix the world. Or porn, chewing through the real girl next door these days. Like, w/e for real, spare us all the faux offense.

@shadowplay In the past I used it frequently, with and without video. It has been a good way to actually chat while playing in game with folks.

Is Skype okay for video chatting with family? I've never used it before, but it would be nice to see my sister on Christmas.
It's perfect for that.

You can also bring more than one person into a call (albeit at the cost of some potential/additional lag), if you have other relatives you'd like to chat to at the same time.

Mine works

Hey! That's how Sommerswerd became a lawyer, I'll have you know.

It only works on Microsoft Edge or with their app now, though.

Don't ask me!

Ah, interesting.

I don't think I ever used Skype through a browser: had the Skype app installed since before M$ bought it, so I never noticed any change in usability.
