The word is out...

I hope you always pay the maximum amount of tax to the government and never take any if this is going to be the moral stand you take.
Everything is more moral than "I don't like it therefore it's bad".

Do you want to get back to exactly how you see some supposed virtue in not paying what you owe?
I don't see the moral value in paying more in taxes than is legally required. If someone is able to reduce the burden placed upon them by the State in a legal fashion, good for them. If you had any evidence that Romney evaded his taxes, this would be a different conversation.

Also according to Lord of Elves your propensity to take tax deductions, places you in the same category as Drunk Drivers and Armed Robbers.

And you don't have any problem with the fact that the tax code is in large parts intentionally designed to allow only rich people where capital gains make up a large part of their income to "avoid" taxes? That many of these rich people pushed for the inclusion of the loopholes Romney may or may not have (ab)used specifically to "avoid" taxes?

Why? To evade taxes of course.

And you don't have any problem ...
What portion of my posts would lead you to believe I would have any real problem with how Mitt Romney made his money? If you want to make a broader point about tax reform, I would be willing to take a look at the proposals made by the Simpson-Bowles Commission.

My guess is that Romney was very abusive with purposely undervaluing the assets he placed in his IRA.

How else could he have stacked tens of millions into a savings account that could only legally take like 30K/year without penalty?

He definately colluded with his accountants and probably people at Bain and the other companies in his portfolio to artificially supress the stock he put into the account, then let it pop back up to full value after the transfer.

Isn't this straight-up tax evasion?

I don't really memorize the general positions of every poster here, especially those that became active again three days ago.

I'm not particularly concerned with the details of the US tax code, so that would probably be wasted effort.

I was making a more general point though. Following the letter of the law may be acceptable in itself in a void, but context matters. That's why I ask if you're okay with a tax code that provides disproportionally more means to "avoid" taxes to certain income segments.

You didn't even know about that until God told me that Mitt was doing it and I posted it up here. (or was that Drudge?)

eh, what difference does it make?

Actually, I also posted that on a thread on Mitt's tax returns on one of my first days as a CFCer (about a month ago). I talked about an article by NPR where they examined the issue.

So God talks to you too, huh?

Theoretically, but it is hard to get a conviction with the favorable treatment that the courts give Wall Streeters.

I got a source that a super secret society of the unexpected is coming to my home within the next hour.

Hint: It has something to do with these guys:

I have a super secret source I'm not going to identify but I've been informed that this thread is not going to die. Why else would everyone be bumping the thread with their posting transcripts and thesis? Let them prove me wrong.

I have a super secret source I'm not going to identify but I've been informed that FDR faked his polio. Why else would he be hiding in his grave? Let him prove me wrong.

The same source also informed me that Harry Truman was also responsible for the gunning down of 57 Pakistanis in 1345.

:rotfl:

This is epic.

What was this thread supposed to be about?

And do you mind if I sig this?
