During a panel at Yeshiva University on Tuesday evening, Sheldon Adelson, noted businessman and owner of the newspaper Israel Hayom, suggested that the US should use nuclear weapons on Iran to impose its demands from a position of strength.

Asked by moderator Rabbi Shmuley Boteach whether the US should negotiate with Iran if it were to cease its uranium enrichment program, Adelson retorted, “What are we going to negotiate about?”

Adelson then imagined what might happen if an American official were to call up an Iranian official, say “watch this,” and subsequently drop a nuclear bomb in the middle of the Iranian desert.

"Then you say, ‘See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development. You want to be peaceful? Just reverse it all, and we will guarantee you that you can have a nuclear power plant for electricity purposes, energy purposes’," Adelson said.

That 'Adelson' person is a moron. Maybe he should return to a slaughterhouse and cut up parts of cows or whatever he used to do before becoming a billionaire while keeping his infantile intellect.
Not that good that such views as his are even presented on public debate. I guess it is not hatespeech if the nationalities are aligned in the 'right' way.

-You can discuss Adelson's offering in the esteemed Yeshiva Uni debate, and if apologists for him should exist.

Is this the interview where he suggested that a nuclear weapon should be detonated in the Iranian desert as a "warning" to their government to discontinue their pursuit of nuclear weapons?

I have difficulty keeping track of all the craziness he spouts.

Sheldon Gary Adelson (pronounced /ˈædəlsən/; born August 4, 1933) is an American business magnate. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, the parent company of Venetian Macao Limited which operates The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Center. He also owns the Israeli daily newspaper Israel HaYom. As of October 2013, Adelson was listed as the 12th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $34.4 billion.[3] Previously, he was listed in the Forbes 400 as the 12th wealthiest American.[4] Adelson, a life-long donor and philanthropist to a variety of causes, founded with his wife's initiative the Adelson Foundation.

I thought he'd be an Israeli, but he isn't.

Adelson is also a big political donor that wasted a boatload of money on losing candidates after Citizens United.

Yes. His fortunes certainly go up and down alarmingly.

At one point, Adelson's estimated wealth was $26.5 billion, making him the third-richest person in the United States according to Forbes for 2007.[68] and $26 billion for 2008.[69] In 2008, the share prices of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. plunged. And in November 2008, Las Vegas Sands Corp. announced that it might default on bonds that it had outstanding, signaling the potential bankruptcy of the concern.[70] Adelson lost $4 billion in 2008, more than any other American billionaire.[71][72] His net worth declined from approximately $30 billion to $2 billion, or 93%.[73] He told ABC News "So I lost $25 billion. I started out with zero...(there is) no such thing as fear, not to an entrepreneur. Concern, yes. Fear, no."[74]

In the Forbes 2009 world billionaires list, Adelson's ranking dropped to #178 with a net worth of $3.4 billion,[75] but in 2011 he was ranked as the world's 16th-richest man with a net worth of $23.3 billion

Perhaps this explains his cavalier attitude towards nuclear weaponry.

So in this thread we're all supposed to point and laugh at this man? I don't really see where the discussion is going to occur.

Well, Iran does seem to like Nuclear weapons a lot, so I guess giving them what they want by dropping one somewhere in Iran would be a gift to them.
Couldn't the same be said for Israel, much less the US?

I thought he'd be an Israeli, but he isn't.
The "debate" also occurred at Yeshiva University in NYC.

But I'm not sure why you are so surprised. He is hardly alone in having this sort of extremist position regarding Iran in either the US or Israel. And he ensures these sorts of wacky opinions are disseminated in Israel by owning an Israeli newspaper, as well as being the largest donor to the GOP in the US.

Adelson, a staunch Israel supporter, gave a whopping $92.8 million, along with his wife Miriam, to outside political groups during the 2012 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political spending. He was a major backer of a super PAC that kept Newt Gingrich’s campaign afloat.

Adelson makes his statement starting at 5:20 to scattered applause from the apparently mostly stunned large audience:

I'm not really very surprised. Not having ever heard of him before though, I just assumed he was an Israeli, until I found out otherwise.

My surprise at his nationality is nothing compared with my surprise at his stupidity. Well, to be fair, it looks like stupidity to me. Opinions of course may differ.

Idiots with too much money in their pockets, there seem to be too many of them for some reason. It gives them an unfair advantage in that people sit down and listen to what they have to say, even though there's only poop exiting their mouths.

The US has to confront Iran militarily sooner or later. Even if Israeli intelligence kept the Iranian nuclear weapons programme in constant disarray until then the invasion of Iran would cost the lives of countless US troops, since the Iranians would obviously defend their homeland fanatically.
But bombed they'd surrender.
