US should drop atomic bomb on Iran -- University debate from Sirius B dwarf

Well, Iran does seem to like Nuclear weapons a lot, so I guess giving them what they want by dropping one somewhere in Iran would be a gift to them.

Well, the U.S. seems to be a big fan of nuclear weapons, so detonating all the nuclear weapons of the U.S. on their own cities would give them the fireworks they apparently want.

Humor aside, we aren't nearly serious enough about non proliferation. Considering the potential costs of proliferation, and/or biological weapons initiatives, we don't invest anywhere near enough political capital, blood, or treasure in preventing these things from spreading.

Honest question: How many dead Americans would preventing the spread of nuclear weaponry to a non-nuclear-armed state be worth? I'm guessing way more than people would like to admit. And if it's "worth" a lot of dead Americans, it's also probably worth a lot of dead Greeks, or Iranians, or North Koreans, or dead whoeverthehells.

Depends on the exchange rate. Side note: I wish I could remember the Onion video clip that had the headline "the equivalent of 7 Americans were killed in Iraq today..." or something like that.

I'm more dismayed that intelligent people, like many here on CFC, barely scrape by, but a clear lunatic like this is a multi-billionaire. Doesn't say much for capitalism.

If a person is truly intelligent, then they can figure out how to play the system. Kind of like how nerds could be the most socially suave if they just apply or devote their intelligence to social awareness and dynamics.

(To a particular limit and extent depending on circumstances)

If Iran wants nukes so bad maybe we should send them some. :dunno:

;)

This is the guy who pretty much has single handedly funded Newt Gingrich. That's pretty much all you need to know about this guy.

Doesn't get you out in the fresh air though, does it?

And, as far as I know, people in the financial sector work crazy hours. Which is counter-intuitive to me. If you make $$$$ per hour, why would you work hrshrshrs?

----------------------------

edit: anyway, back to the OP: one has to wonder whether the concentration of such vast wealth in the hands of one person is a really good idea.

That's what the military reserves are for.

Because it's damn rewarding and enjoyable? When I was younger, I would go up to my controller and ask permission to come in on some Saturdays.

If it's enjoyable, why do you get paid such astronomical sums for it?

But, I'm betraying my prejudices here, I'll be bound. For me, pay is the compensation I get for doing something I wouldn't otherwise do. I've never felt this was a good attitude. Though I think it's how most people think of their work.

That 'Adelson' person is a moron. Maybe he should return to a slaughterhouse and cut up parts of cows or whatever he used to do before becoming a billionaire while keeping his infantile intellect.
Not that good that such views as his are even presented on public debate. I guess it is not hatespeech if the nationalities are aligned in the 'right' way.

-You can discuss Adelson's offering in the esteemed Yeshiva Uni debate, and if apologists for him should exist.

I seem to remember this guy. Didn't he spend millions of $$$ on Romney last year?

Nuking Iran's desert in a show of force? That's crazy talk.

You wait until Iran has a full moon directly overhead, then you nuke the moon as a show of force.

You signing up?

My card's expired. But it was good for 10 years. Should have been dealt with then.

It wasn't a war-beat. It was merely the assessment that it's probably worth some lives. Especially that bit about biological weapons. But to assume they aren't usable? Now that's wishful thinking at its absolute worst.

I wouldn't say I get paid "astronomical sums" (at least not yet ;) ). The issue is in magnitude of the impact of the work. If I were to make advisements that save a company tens of thousands of dollars then I will be bringing about greater value and will be compensated more than an exact same person putting in the exact same effort and intelligence to best handle a team of 10, saving a company hundreds of dollars.

It's not really fair, but that's kind of the way the world works.

I am genuinely curious. What exactly is so rewarding? What is it that gives you the kicks? I find your previous statement a bit vague in that regard. Obviously you have the impression to be good at what you do. Is that it? Are you better than others, enjoy a special amount of respect?

Let's just say I'm the type of person that loves structure, organization, efficiency, and getting **** done. But I'd rather not continue this line of conversation since I've inadvertently hijacked this thread enough. (Not that there's much to discuss here)
