What Video Games have you been playing II: Have you finished that backlog?

My prvious game(s) of CKII became a silly world-wide medieval swinger orgy, with every single freaking wife of my character cheating on him even if they were already lovers, it was like a revolving door of divorces and new wifeys. And my character was such a nice guy too, even after he divorced them instead of executing them he just found them new husbands who were decent guys (althiugh they'd oribably end up ****holding those guys too).

So I started a new game as a republic in the ERE, still (loosely) oleplaying as my chinese friend from high school. This time however I modded the code a bit to limit who you and the ai would seduce, and it seems to have made things saner while still leaving the possibility for some adultery and sexy times here and there (the spymaster seduced the marshal's wife, for instance, poor guy he's actually a pretty nice fella). Anyways so my friend became lovers with a cute Norman blonde, married her, then they became best friends when he took the carousing focus, and they've got several healthy sons and daughters who will undoubtedly begin the incestuous family tradition like all good CKII dynasties should.

Breezed through Star Wars: Republic Commando. It's kind of Ghost Recon set in the Star Wars universe. Nine years old by now, and on the whole, pretty meh. Brief campaign, no real story. The squad system was alright, but levels were completely linear and lacked replay value. I did enjoy knifing everything to death with my wrist vibroblade, though. Personal shields+close quarters+one-hit knifing kills on most enemies=a lot of knifed enemies.

The books have a damn good storyline to them from what I remember, but yeah, I've heard the game's storyline isn't anything to brag about.

Bought LA Noire Complete Edition, finally got all the Skyrim DLC, added Binding of Issac, Shadowrun Returns, Breach & Clear (basically a modern combat version of Frozen Synapse from what I know), and a bunch of isometric RPGs by Spiderweb Software since the beginning of the sale. Still got more money coming my way for Christmas probably. All hail Lord Gaben.

If anyone is a fan of isometric RPGs, I know I ALWAYS advertise these, but Spiderweb Software's series (Geneforge, Avernum, and Avadon) are top class for that retro feel, and I absolutely love them. Plus, you can get 12 of their games (Avernum 4-6, full Geneforge series, Avadon 1 & 2, and an additional game) for just $8. Damn good deal if I ever saw one.

Installed Episodes from Liberty City, fired up the Ballad of Gay Tony, did the introductory mission, and then shot a few cops.

Heh, just about to mention Spiderweb Software. Avernum: Escape from the Pit is an absolute blast. I've owned the game for a while now, but restarted with a new character on Saturday and have been enjoying myself quite a bit.

I finished the main storyline for Far Cry 3. Good stuff. Miles better than FC2.

Next: I picked up Skyrim for $5, even though the setting looks like a yawner. I doubt I'll play it for long, but I want to see what the fuss was about and, heck, $5.

Far Cry 2's good guy is Malaria.
Seriously, it's the only thing that isn't doublecrossing or in it for money at this point.

'It's a parasite, but at least it's an honest parasite'?

I ended up shooting some more cops, stealing a dead cop's carbine rifle, and then shot a dozen cops with said rifle. Please help, I can't stop shooting Liberty City Police.

Also, I was having fun shooting up entire pirate strongholds, until my console crashed.

Spreadin' my incestuous Asian-Norman family all over Europe in CKII. My main base is in the Kingdom of Sicily where I started, but I got relatives on the thrones of Norway and Sweden, and in a few other scattered realms such as Toulouse and parts of Ireland, and am poised to have a family member take over the ERE soon. Matrilineal marriages and interbreeding ftw.

Well, there was that journalist.

And this one wildebeest that I ran over.

Seriously, though, FC2 was mostly fun and decent enough until the ending, which ruined it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Wait, you mean it got worse at the end? Now I'm really glad I didn't finish it.

Goal for this Christmas vacation: finish the Dead Money DLC without going totally insane and start killing other people.

I'm thinking of picking up Daikatana from my backlog and playing it. I have no idea where to set expectations since it was generally panned, but Ion Storm also came out with Deus Ex, which was awesome. It's kind of fun going in with no expectations. I've watched most of the opening cinematic, which was promising, but it was far too late to get into the game when I did that.

Reading cybrxkhan's posts about CKII reminds me of a friend who recently relayed the tale of a few of his coworkers who play CKII. They'll talk about it in the hallways and elevators at work, and people will look at them really strange because they'll be talking about incest and assassinating people and all sorts of other really awful things, all the while seeming not at all concerned. My friend's a bit more diplomatic about where he discusses CKII happenings, probably wisely so.
