This thread is about commercial air travel. If you're gonna post complaining about commercial air travel, please don't. This ain't the thread for it.

So anyway, where in the airplane do you like to sit? And explain why.

Poll coming.

I like to sit in the window seat, behind the wing. I like the action I get to see on the wing (flaps, spoilers, and wing flex). Plus, I don't have to twist my head and body very far to watch the wing. For planes with tail-mounted engines, then I like to sit at the window seat close to the engines. I like watching the fan blades spin, and hearing how the engines sound.

I like sitting in the window seat, preferably away from the wing, as I love to watch the ground below. Its an awesome view.. Especially at night time.

Well I like by the window, but when I flew to Hawaii, i was in an aisle and that wasn't that bad, but still there really wasn't much of a view. I like the window any wear, I am mostly near the wing though which is cool.

anyplace except emergency exit... behind emergency exit though if not business or first-class

Anyone who picks anything other than a first class seat is crazy...hehe. There simply is no comparison.
I would love to fly first class if I could afford it... though as a college student, my budget is rather tight.

Second choice would be the window seat on the emergency exit, because it usually has quite an extra bit of legroom which you don't have to pay for.

Most flights around here don't offer first class - many don't even offer business class.

For me, it depends on the length of the flight and the airline - I would sooner sit in economy / premium economy on Singapore air or Air NZ than in business class on Royal Brunei, for example. I like the in-flight entertainment systems to while away the time.

First class and business seats aren't worth it at all when you consider the cost.

Aisle seats are best; I'm tall and need the extra legroom.

Aisle seat towards the front... easy to get up and go to the bathroom and stretch your legs, and you're not waiting around for other people once the plane lands.

Just as an aside...I think the OP considers them available...and makes no reference to cost...just to preferance.

Seriously. I have flown first class twice in my life and both times it was sheer pleasure. Incredibly spacious and comfortable seats, and all the booze you can drink with constant attention to your every need.

All things equal, first class is the way to go.

Behind the wing, strategically. Raises my percentage survival by around a full 50%

The last row in the plane is generally the best economy seating (at least on the few flights I've been on), because there is a bit more legroom, and there's only two seats together, as opposed to three.

Depends

short flight and luggage checked in - window
short flight and no luggage checked in - aisle near the door for a quick exit
long flight over ocean - aisle so I can walk around
long flight over land - window for views

Have only ever flown cattle class

The row of seats directly behind the business class on some flights has the same business type seats.

This thread has the answer included in the title! :mischief:

The last row of seats can't recline backwards in most planes, which is absolutely terrible for long flights. I was stuck on such a seat on a night flight from New York to Bucharest, and you don't want that happening to you. Out of pure luck however, I was seated near a very, very hot girl, and we used the bad chair pretext to sleep into each other's laps. :D

As for my seat preference - give me a window seat, either behind the wing or close to the back of the plane! Most flights I've been on used both the front and back exits, so you don't have to wait for the others to get their stuff after landing, since you're very close to the rear exit.

As to why a window seat - well, I've got 2 reasons. First of all, I love looking out of the window on a flight. I've flown more than 100 times, and yet I'm still never bored of it (of course, sometimes I'm so tired that I sleep from the moment I get to my chair to the moment we land, but that's a different story). And secondly, I don't like to be bothered when somebody needs to go to the toilet (especially if the flight has three chairs on each side, so you have to accommodate the needs of 2 people instead of 1) - I prefer to be the one waking the others up / stopping them from whatever they're doing, rather than the one to be woken up / stopped from whatever I'm doing by the others.

And I hate sitting on the wing, although it seems to happen to me most of the times - you can't see anything, and the white wings reflect upsetting amounts of light at all times.

Window seat, away from the wing, always. Ideally in front of it. If money isn't an issue, first class.

Pilot or co-pilot chair. Biggest thing I have flown are single engine prop. otherwise first class window. I'm assuming a long flight.
