yeah die hard is really good

then there are atrocities like die hard 4 :/. which apparently looking it up critics like die hard 4 so I don't even know what to believe in anymore, that movie is so bad

its not me exaggerating either. he fights an f16 on the highway. what the f.
I never saw the movie, but I vaguely remember trailers and I thought it was an F-22?

American Splendor. If Paul Giamatti had a film in the woods, would critics still overrate it?

not good, and certainly not nominee for academy award/writer guild best screenplay good. boring, would not recommend

Saw Lawrence of Arabia today fully. I had seen bits and parts of it before but hadn't gotten a chance to watch it fully. Can't say its my favorite movie ever but there are parts that I do like. The cinematography behind it was beautiful though and the music classic. I give it a 7/10.

*edit in response to dachs*: Iunno what plane, didn't bother to look it up

A Good Day to Die Hard is reporting a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, so I don't really think the critics are taking much of a shine to it.

War of the Arrows. Saw the dubbed version, which was not bad. I love archery combat, so that was a plus. The action was good, and the villains were pretty human, thinking, and determined. But some aspects weren't well explained, and the armor did nothing as usual. 6.5/10.

Casino Royale. Second or third time seeing it, but color me impressed! It has probably my favorite theme song, a strong and fairly realistic plot, makes Bond at once human and a tough killer, and has an excellent Bond girl (and a gorgeous one at that). It definitely escaped the absurdity and silliness that plagued a lot of the earlier ones. 9/10, at least.

yes yes yes don't patronize me I know the differences, it is a piece of military hardware after all, it's just that it was a trailer I saw a long time ago and I wasn't paying that much attention but I knew damn well that it wasn't an F-16

Dachs, I am not patronizing you. They really do look a lot alike. Chill

Same contractor (lockheed), same layout, common parts, everything. The F-35 is the F-22's little brother

The little brother that's overweight and miscarries?

The Man from Earth

it's from a Star Trek writer (which I don't remember Day of the Dove or By any other name, but he did write a bad episode--Requiem for Methuselah--and one great one--Mirror Mirror). Anyways, it's kind of same theme as requiem for methuselah i.e. an immortal man.

it's half bad, half bad funny, 1/8th actually good fun, 1/16th actually good, and 4/5ths inconsistent in the pacing/approach:
Spoiler movie spoilers :

I was just a normal guy, I couldn't know much more than anyone else in the vast world; I only saw things with my own eyes, nothing special, etc ---> JK guys I was jesus, knew buddha, etc

also whipping out the "I love yous" left and right for no reason. And by left and right I mean once in the film, but then that girl seems to be involved with another dude. Who knows.

christian literalist character best character, followed by stupid cawlej chick

it's not good and not really worth a watch, unless you're looking to see more indie films just to see them.

It's my favourite Christmas movie. One day when I am a father, me and my children will watch it on Christmas eve.

Its definitely up there for me as well

Live Free or Die Hard is the only other Die Hard I've seen, and I don't recall it being that bad. Then again I saw it a while ago and barely remember it.

Anyways, saw Apocalypse Now for the third time today. Still a fantastic watch, the helicopter scene in particular. I love how this movie is so influential that Ride of the Valkyries is now associated with helicopters and Vietnam instead of dive bombers and Nazi's.

My friends and I play the song whenever we do helicopter raids in Dayz

Glad to know I'm not alone with a habit of watching it on Xmas - 20 decades now with very few missed years.

One of the prime examples of what happens when R is transformed into PG-13
I think referred this at some earlier point of time.

Skyfall. Finally. Disappointed. I had too high expectations so it's rather a disappointment of not meeting those than the movie itself being bad, it's ok but far from excellent. Bond with a beard is the coolest thing in this year so far but the main problem for me was the feeling of independent scenes in sequence hold together by few reoccurring people rather than proper flow of a movie. In the first half it still seemed to be much better and the shooting scene in the court was the low point.

Watched The Avengers (3d version), the movie was great but the 3d wasn't really done well. Iron Man (Tony) is probably the most likeable character, also aliens....great movie.

The Hurt Locker.
Not my kind of a movie - all I got out of it was a head ache due to the lively camera work. It's ok to occasionally use handheld cameras but does it really need to shaken like a Martini while constantly zooming in & out.
Few weeks back I watched Green Zone to a degree a similar but I liked it more.

Finally caught Wreck-It Ralph. I actually thought it was pretty good for what it was.

I also finally saw Big Trouble in Little China after being vaguely aware of it for years. Great "bad" movie

EDIT: I also re-watched my most embarrassing guilty pleasure:

Spoiler :

EDIT2: I have terrible taste in movies

^I approve your guilty pleasures - I think I've already embarrassed myself by stating that one of mine is Smokey & The Bandit which, I learned only few weeks back, was also Hitchcock's favourite.

All 4 Dean Martin's Matt Helm movies almost in a row one of which was the first time. Hard to think of anything to say about these for people who haven't seen them and pointless for those who have seen them. They're pure entertainment - liking them is a matter of taste & tolerance. Somewhat hilarious is the use of Martin's music in several places but Hamilton's novels could've been treated differently.

So, I saw Wreck-It Ralph recently. I was underwhelmed. It's a fine movie, but it's not the movie I was hoping to see. Looking at the trailers, I expected a lot more clever video game humor and something more akin to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, video game characters and all. Unfortunately, it focused a little too much on drama and storytelling for my tastes, and it came across as just another somewhat heartwarming Disney flick with a clever setting. Good movie to see once, but not worth it the second time through.
