I think he is referring to both the fact that it is a different world other than earth, and that everything is developing slightly differently. He is essentially stating that all non-earth based games and some earth based are a degree of Fantasy, while the rest are Alternate History.

Find. End of Empires is a no-fantasy setting. Happy now?

Currently I have a couple ideas for starting the campaign.

Traditional Adventure-esque Possiblities
1) The Burned Plains of Gallat. The Savirai-Brunnekt armies have just withdrawn, leaving leagues upon leagues of desolate landscapes. The party is a small group of survivors who might have greater loyalties, but the initial focus is to keep surviving. The first few sessions would be encounters with other survivor groups, including small bands of soldiers. Then, the situation broadens as Javan marches in and takes the initiative. After that it's increasingly open. What I would find interesting if the party consists of rivals (A couple of Satar and Savirai, for example) who decided to survive first.

2) The Second Armageddon. Party starts either in Kargan or Neuruss, likely as mercenaries or travelers of some kind, as they do missions within context of War of Three Gods and possibly achieve name and status for themselves and change the course of events. Much broader campaign than The Burned Plains of Gallat.

3) A Frosty Reception. A bunch of travelers and dignitaries from various lands get stuck in the icy north miles from any civilized land after a massive storm. Satar, Gallatene, Stettekt, Ethir, Parthecan and other peoples will be involved. Not particularly interesting, I guess, but I'm just putting it out there.

4) Swords for Hire Any era any war/conflict. Specialized mercenaries and adventurers seeking out their own gold and goals. Basically a more general form of #2, based on popular demand.

Other ideas? Help me think up of something interesting to go!

I'm currently feeling middle limit, with up to 10 characters and the first 5-6 on #nes on gamenight to play.

ATTENTION ALL INTERESTED IN #NESFATE

I have MADE MY DECISION. This game will 99% will an END OF EMPIRES NO-FANTASY SETTING.

1) "The Burning Throne", Survivors of Gallat. The Aitahist armies have just retreated, leaving a desolate landscape full of gaggles of broken men, bands of abandoned soldiers, and mobs of surviving civilians. Your party has gathered together in the name of survival, and must deal with the every day troubles of the aftermath, from survivors stealing your food, bandits attacking your camp, to trying to not get distracted by those damn puppy dog eyes. As events shift, perhaps one of the armies will march in and secure the area, and then beyond. Until then, No Man's Land is a death trap, one which the party can chose to flee, or conquer.

2) "Before the Feast", Sell Swords of Kargan. After the Plague, The Armies of the Redeemer has marched forth to Neruss for an easy conquest. Your band of Mercenaries have arrived on rumors of good pay to be the personal force of one Prince or Accan or another. After several easy successes, you find yourselves under high value from dozens of potential employees... or antagonists. After the Redeemer's failure at Neruss, you might be sent to retrieve family members in the Sesh or to infiltrate slave rebellion centers, or even off rival family heads in the chaos. Unless you did spectacularly, you might be forced back to Kargan, where the Feast is coming sooner and sooner, demanding either support or revolt, as you are sent to continue to frustrate slave revolts and enemy siege lines.

3) "Gathering Wolves", Sell Swords of Neruss. After the Plague, The Armies of the Redeemer has marched forth to Neruss for an easy conquest. Your band of Mercenaries have arrived on rumors of good pay to be the personal force of one Merchant or Nobleman or another. After several easy success, you find yourself in the midst of an evacuation. Will you focus on saving the civilians, or is the chaos the perfect chance to complete several "marks"? After the Redeemer's failure at Nerus, you might be sent to help liberate the Sesh or eliminate Satores from Satara. One of your employees might need support for a magnificent "Accan Expedition", perhaps you can help "convince" the other admirals to support your boss's plan?

The FIRST SESSION is THIS SUNDAY, 8-10 EST. At that session, I will SELECT OUR PARTY, and help the players THROUGH THE PURE AWESOME SAUCE OF THE FATE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, I will be available FRIDAY NIGHT and SATURDAY EVENING.

WHAT THE FLAGNOG DO YOU WANT FROM ME?

I'm glad you asked! I want you to tell me WHICH CAMPAIGN YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN. In addition, I want you to give me a "High Concept" and a "Trouble". A HIGH CONCEPT is a one phrase summary/Aspect of who your character is and what makes him/her special. "Exiled Tarkan Seeking Redemption" "Traveling Sword of the Daharai" "Infamous Girl With Sword" etc. A TROUBLE is an aspect of your character which keeps getting him and her into adventures. "Proud of Exatas" "Needs One Good Run" and "Loves Shiny Objects". These shouldn't be 100% positive or negative, but describes both sides of the coin. I.E. "Exiled Tarkan" is better than "Swordsmaster" in general.

When we start everyone will write their first adventure paragraph/adventure concept and gain an "Aspect" from that. Then, two other characters will add on to or affect the adventure, and each character will overlap onto two other character's adventures. Each overlap will be symbolized by an "Aspect."

If you guys get started on that early, that will greatly increase the chances of me accepting your character. Even if you don't have the time, I've reserved this Sunday's session just to build characters.

OTHER

This FATENES will run twice a Month, likely every other week, Sunday 7-11 EST, a minimum of 2 hours (maximum of, obviously, 5 hours.)

This FATENES is Guaranteed at least 25 Sessions of AWESOMENESS.

These READINGS ARE MANDATORY, by the time we start in 2-3 weeks. You obviously need a handle on the basis system.

This FATENES will NOT INTERFERE WITH MY SILLINES3: THE SEARCH FOR IMAGO NOR MY TERRANES2: DESTINY DEFFERRED. Don't worry. I'm not only a try hard, but also a do hard. AND an accomplish hard.

Finally, I just thought of an interesting alternate setting. Remember THE FORTRESS Arrow and I did before he bailed ship? There is so much to that setting, that I'm willing to run an Exploration/Survival game based on that (obviously not the exact same map! DUH!).

EDIT: I can always do some kind of free form thingy majig too, if that's what you guys want.

I'm back from six days in Atlanta. Thanks for behaving!! :)

Damn, I cannae play at those hours. Damn ye terrance.

So basically it's midnight-4 am for me.

I can actually manage Mondays, so I think I'm in.

EDIT: So, I forget: Which updates exactly do these scenarios span? I'm considering whether I should play a Hiut priest Magio-cultist or Ilfolk trader/traveler :3

1) Deals with Updates 25-26.

2 and 3 Deals with Updates 13-14

For those who care. New chapter to Princes of the Universe inbound.

Maybe all of you old S and T'ers could return back to S and T! There are still a few dedicated writers (myself included) trying to keep the forum alive.

In general, there are fewer stories, but updates are far more frequent and way fewer stories die after their 1st update.
