Young males or young females?

I've been in a lot of cars with my friends driving back when I was a young lad, and they always drove way to fast, but I never feared for my life.

Often when I drive with a girl in high school/early college, I am in fear for my life. They are driving over the speed limit, usually not by much, but they multitask so much that it feels like they aren't watching the road for solid seconds at a time, any little mistake or miscommunication by another driver and WHAM!

I was driving around a lot with a 17 year old girl today, all over town, lots of stopping and starting for like 5 hours.... the level of multitasking, the things she did while driving, oh my god, I am lucky to be in one piece.

Side note: Insurance companies charge young men more than women of the same age, so I guess at the end of the day the boys are more dangerous, but a lot less scary to me.

Edit, meant to say - Young Women.... It's the only plural I ever mess up and I always do it :cringe:

I (think I) read somewhere that women are more likely to crash, but its generally harmless stuff like reversing into a bollard or hitting someone elses car in traffic at less than 10mph. Men are less likely to crash but tend to crash much more dangerously, totally wrecking the cars involved, etc.

That would explain the higher premiums for men, as its much more expensive to completely ruin a car than scratch it.

I certainly have plenty of anecdotal "evidence" :D .

Definitely males are more scary drivers. Now I normally don't like making these kinds of generalisations. But while anyone can end up in a traffic accident, it does seem that accidents caused by guys are more likely to be a result of driving too fast rather than any other reason. Which means when they crash they do more damage and are more likely to cause death or serious injury. I think this is what insurance companies mean when they say women are safer drivers - it's not that they don't crash, just that they do less damage.

I must admit that I have absolutely no statistical evidence for any of this, it's just the impression I get from my experiences of driving and being a passenger.

According to my friends, the scariest driver they know is me :D.
Can't really say that i could judge about others, they seem to be all okay for me :dunno:. That's probably because my friends are right :D.

Fixed it.

Well, I guess if I had to choose I'd go with Young Men, though that's just because of a friend of mine who drives me home from OCTC who almost drove us into a ditch once. Horribly driver.

Don't trust anyone under thirty. :scared:

I'd say I'd feel more safe in a car with a young male driver, but only because I'd feel more comfortable whapping him upside the head if he got too crazy. I don't know if I could correct a young female driver who is failing to pay attention as effectively.

While young women may have more accidents per mile driven, young men drive more and have much high speed accidents.

As a result most men(over 25 or married) are actually safer drivers, but the still drive allot more.

I'd say young women, because most people who never put their phone down are girls in my school. I've even seen them texting and driving in the parking lot.

I would say both genders can be pretty wreckless BUT since guys are more likely into racing, it means they're at least somewhat attentive to the road, whereas the gals I've at least seen are focused on their phones.

both are bad. Men drive fast and do stupid things while driving, while women drive slow and do stupid things while driving.

Interesting question. Assuming I wasn't in the back of a car and was driving my own...

I've found that when another driver has been unaware of my presence or has driven with presumption about my position or path in the road, it has usually been a woman. If a driver has obviously been aware of me but has recklessly manoeuvred so that I have to take avoiding action, it has usually been a man.

The difference has been that one hasn't thought and has driven badly, whereas the other has thought and still driven badly! They both kill people. But that's just a small sample of one person's experience over 42 years of driving.

Young men.

According to my wife I'm a scary driver. According to my insurance rates, I'm a pretty safe driver for my age.
