It's also just not about 'generousness'. I would never really want to delve into the difference in generousness because they're going to be expressed both along different dimensions, and also because my intuition is that liberals are much less generous.

It's about the political and economic systems that allow wealth creation. Now, oodles of this are based on geographic and historical factors that happened first, but longer histories give us more information.

I wish more people understood Magister's point about rents and subsidies. Even 'generousness' ends up being a subsidy for people who weren't originally given the money.

Seems like a chicken-egg thing... The economics of a given state aren't simply about the politics, right? So the politics about any given state aren't just about the economics.

Oh sure, that's not it, but it's pretty significant. Probably about as significant as budgeting is as a part of government. Ways and Means isn't everything, but it has its difinger in just about every pie.

Alaska, North Dakota, Wyoming - all lots of natural resources worth money with relatively few people. Also lots of federal spending if they have a lot of federal ground/parks/things to protect/conserve/direct/etc. California attracts lots of new residents with relatively little and exports residents who have relatively much, it controls the lion's share of trade with Asia, the seaboards have ports, Illinois has both the great lakes and the Mississippi, lots of stuff plays in. But there is a general trend.

When there are only two real parties you're going to have the wealthy in both parties. But in general I would bet more of the wealthy lean Repub.

considering that those are based on exit polls and that for over 100k the percentages are so close, I'd claim no real difference.
But they don't differentiate past the 250k so you really can't tell on the UPPER UPPER end.

2016 was a somewhat unusual election cycle, that was the first time in quite a while with a 'populist' in the race appealing to the working man.

After Dubya, people just didn't trust the republicans, i wonder why?:mischief:

The next democratic debate is going to be another 20 person, 2 night affair which is lame. I'm ready for them to cull the herd a bit.

So I was ranting the other day about how the media is complicit in Trump's lying and racism for not calling it what it is but PBS and NPR have really stepped up lately. On NPR, a Trump spokesman went on and was asked a question and he rattled off a list of lies that had nothing to do with what was asked. The reporter said, (paraphrasing): "We could disprove all of those talking points as false but they have nothing to do with the question that was asked so...". Another spokeswoman came on a later segment as a member of a Hispanic, pro-Trump group and NPR hit her so hard over the head with the racism angle that she audibly gave up trying to defend Trump by the end. Just threw in the towel.

PBS is no longer hedging their language as much either - while they don't frequently use the words lies or liar, they do use them and use less soft language such as 'misleading' than they use to. It's a sign that hopefully serious journalism is catching up to the problems of the Trump era in the media but I fear it's too little, too late.

Well, it's a free market chasing a customer base. I guess there's a subset of the news consuming populace that doesn't want to see the phrase "the president tweeted racist things" oh, so the people chasing that market will selectively fail to report some news

The president is racist; the media comments on it. News at eleven.

Here the wealth thing is usually around 30/70 and 70/30 in terms of rich/poor that vote left/right. The elections are often decided by who can bribe the middle class the best.

Right wing voters turn out more so their overall 30% support is close to 51% when 1 in 4 voters don't show up.

In theory you need around 37% support to win but with rounding and votes for parties that don't get in that number is usually 2-3% lower.

Our right wing party is kinda screwed atm they don't have any coalition partners but they can theoretically win with 28% of the vote.

these were only results containing 'racist tweets' as a shill keyphrase in the title or header (and only 100 of >1000 of those in the last 72h)

Of course Hobbs point was that it started turning around on this set of racist tweets so. . .

The president is a racist pig; the media comments on it. News at eleven.
There. That sounds better. More accurate now.

Actually, now that I think of it, the word I would most use to describe President Trump starts with the letter "C".

‘Colourblind’? It would definitely explain his fashion sense, and as a health professional I'm sure you'd be qualified to issue such a diagnosis.
