Bravely bold Sir Robin, rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, O Brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken.
To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!
His head smashed in and his heart cut out,
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged,
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off,
And his penis...

(Robin interrupts the song)

(Robin encounters the 3-Headed Knight)

(After Robin runs away from the 3-Headed Knight)

MINSTREL: Brave Sir Robin ran away

ROBIN: No!

MINSTREL (singing): Bravely ran away away

ROBIN: I didn't!

MINSTREL (singing): When danger reared its ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled

ROBIN: No!

MINSTREL (singing): Yes Brave Sir Robin turned about

ROBIN: I didn't!

MINSTREL (singing): And gallantly he chickened out Bravely taking to his feet

ROBIN: I never did!

MINSTREL (singing): He beat a very brave retreat

ROBIN: Oh, lie!

MINSTREL (singing): Bravest of the brave Sir Robin

ROBIN: I never!

(Later, when Robin meets up with King Arthur)

MINSTREL (singing): Packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering off
And chickening out and pissing off home
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge

Berzerker has a point, here. You don't get to contribute to the construction of a racist police state, and when called it on, just go "aw, dang, my bad". You have to put in the work to fix what you've done. It's not clear how far Biden has done that.

So, we need newborn children to run for office?

Yea I get that he deserves to be trashed on his participation in what turned out to be a complete debacle of a law. Its just that while the man called his legislation regarding the matter a bad mistake he's attacking him for the legislation. Honestly we want our politicians to be human, but they show the slightest weakness (ability to learn) and we go for the throat. I'm not a fan of Biden beyond his The Onion articles but I do forgive those who show contrition.

Everybody has the same past?

You're not going to find many people who were in federal elected office in the U.S. in the 1990s who didn't vote in favor of at least some of the awful "tough on crime" legislation.

What I dislike about Biden's apology is he didn't really take any ownership of it. He said he was sorry that it happened, not that he was personally sorry for the role he played in making it happen. Typical politician non-apology.

I'd be willing to accept an apology for that and Anita Hill that actually demonstrated remorse and understanding of the harm he caused by his actions, and took ownership. This wasn't it, and wasn't anywhere close.

There is a saying about the people being more likely to vote for the named conservative party instead of the con-lite version. But i am sure it has no bearing in this or in the 2016 election.

This is a weird response on three or four distinct levels.

Perhaps, but I think it makes the point. In the US, if you say "well, we can't let someone who benefited from white privilege just apologize and move on" you are effectively saying "eliminate white privilege starting now so the currently unborn are the only potential candidates," and that's only IF you somehow pull off the elimination.

It's not about "benefiting from white privilege", it's about actively contributing to structural racism. It's not even about being old; Sanders is older than Biden, and he doesn't have this sort of albatross around his neck.

See, it wasn't called that at the time; at least that way of framing things hadn't won wide circulation and acceptance. We've lived through a full-on sea change on some important matters, and certain people's lifetimes straddle that sea change.

But on this particular case, I'm feeling less and less that Biden has anything special to offer in the 2020 election, so younger candidates, untarnished by this past, can feel free to step forward. I had initially thought Biden might peel back off some of the blue-collar workers who had taken a flyer on Trump; he has an authenticity that appeals to them. I now think young is the right way to contest Trump in any case.

And there is also only so much you can do.
I'm an old white dude that has certainly benefited from white privilege as much as I'd like to believe it was all due to personal ability.
I don't think I've been consciously racist and have mentored many minorities along in their careers. i try to feel guilt but in all honesty, I can't.
What else am I expected to do.

He doesn't? I suggest you examine his record a little more closely. You don't seem to get that everyone contributes to it.

Some politicians profits out of having minorities need saviors; they would do nothing to eliminate what gets them votes, so would never help minorities at all.
Sanders doesnt try to steal black people's votes. Sadly this is easy for the establishment to taint so as to maintain its miserable existence which harms all groups.

Sanders also voted for the large crime bill that very much exacerbated the problems with regard to racial inequality surrounding criminal justice. He most certainly has that albatross around his neck.
