no, more like they don't impact the election so why should they impact the primary? less overton, at least consciously speaking it was not something I took into serious account.
Arguably, that is part of the thought process behind superdelegates... they can in theory cancel out that impact, however... we know how folks feel about that.
I also seem to remember there being some discussion in 2016 about putting some kind of penalty on states that had voted Republican in the prior election, by making the states that voted Democrat have their votes count some percentage more... but I don't know where that discussion went, besides nowhere.
you got me wondering what % of WV Republicans would refuse to vote for a nominee because they're black
The simple answer is...we will find out when the Republican party nominates a black candidate for POTUS. When you just sit back and think about that you've got your answer.
On a related note...that's a convenient benefit of being a Republican voter. Democratic voters had to go through the exercise of explaining why they wouldn't support the Democratic nominee. Some common obvious excuses/pretenses were "he's arrogant" or "he's too radical". Some of the common answers that more strongly suggested
subconscious racial prejudice were "something about him just rubs me the wrong way, I don't know exactly what it is" or "I just don't trust him, I don't know why". Another more obvious one further along the spectrum was "he's Muslim" or "he wasn't born in this country". But then you got all the way to the end of the spectrum with people outright saying "he's an Arab" or "I can't vote for a black person" as their reasoning.
But Republican voters didn't have to be bothered with any of that. They could just call him a radical socialist communist liberal Democrat, or simply a Democrat, and that's reason enough not to vote for him. So like I said, we need the Republicans to
at least manage to nominate someone black for POTUS before that is even a legitimate question.
could it be the LP is the whitest and least racist of the 3?
No, I don't think so, because its not about the party, its about
the people.
