2020 US Election (Part One)

Biden is still way ahead. Warren and Bootyjudge seem to have plateaued in favor of Sanders who seems to be gaining very slowly.

Nearly everyone has flatlined. Bloomberg got a blip recently, Sanders is egging on, Biden's ups and downs are being equalized.... Biden at around 30%, Bernie right behind at 20.

These campaigns need to add some spice, mix up a few words, take a gamble. Did something in particular happen? Buttigeg frizzled out because he was what - to 'mainline liberal'? Dunno what happened to Waren.

The only thing that seems to create significant movement at this point is people dropping out... and its high time that a few more did so.

Let's see.
One side is cheating.
One side which considers itself the annointed bringer of God to this land so any triumph other than theirs is illegitimate.
The two above are, in fact, the same side.
So, the answer to this question:is ‘no’.
That's an ugly picture of the Democrats. It's pretty accurate, though they usually leave God out of their entitlement complex. Still, pretty spot on.

Moderator Action: If people spent less time coming up with cunning retorts and more time honestly engaging with the discussion at hand, these conversations would go so much better. Thank you.

Latest polling numbers are looking pretty strong for Bernie in Iowa and NH

You can usually tell what the GOP is thinking - they accuse someone else of wanting to do it instead.

He’ll tank again once they start voting in the states that have a black population that you can’t count on two hands. Biden has got the torch passed from Clinton and he’ll easily get a plurality in those states.

It's basically mechanical at this point. It's like an instinctive response.

Just for the record it is not really possible to poll a caucus, so Iowa "polls" should be taken with a large grain of salt.

It is nice to see the series of pieces that have come out in the last few days with the basic theme: Bernie could really win this thing.

Williamson and Booker are out.

And apparently Warren...said Bernie said something akin to 'Women can't get into office'? And was rebuffed? #refundwarren is trending. Is this the end for her campaign?

Her campaign was DOA once Biden and Sanders were in the race; Biden the shoe-in heir apparent and Sanders the leftist insurgent. On top of that, Democrats will never run the only woman in the party who somehow is less likable than Hillary Clinton.

Now that is hyperbole! lol.

"Likability" is very ephemeral, and often revealing. Actual favourability ratings can be useful, in which case amongst Democrats Warren is slightly behind Sanders, around even with Biden, and well ahead of Buttigieg. As far as I can tell, the only candidate with negative favourability is Gabbard.

I think Warren has been getting some bad advice from the Obama strategists she apparently has taken in recently. If people actually wanted four more years of Obama Biden would be further ahead.

I don't think I'd like it either, I was asking out of pure curiosity. I do think he was a great VP though.

Can Biden be a Vice President again?

Yes

However, vice presidents, like members of the U.S. Congress, face no such restrictions on how long they can hold their jobs. To date, though, no one who’s ever been a heartbeat away from the presidency has served more than two full terms. In fact, only nine VPs have served for eight years: John Adams, Daniel Tompkins, John C. Calhoun, Thomas Marshall, John Nance Garner, Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush, Al Gore, Dick Cheney and Joe Biden.

While there was an implication that this was a "cunning retort," what we really need is less bald faced lying about what other people mean by their posts in a vain attempt to create the impression that someone else shares your incredibly repugnant views.

Monmouth University poll of likely Iowa Democratic Caucusgoers, 13 January 2020:

If the Democratic caucuses for president were today, would you support – [NAMES WERE ROTATED]? [If UNDECIDED: If you had to support one of these candidates at this moment, who do you lean toward?]

Joe Biden 24%
Bernie Sanders 18%
Pete Buttigieg 17%
Elizabeth Warren 15%
Everyone else is below 10%.

Monmouth asked another interesting question:
Who would be your second choice if you had to make one?

Elizabeth Warren 23%
Pete Buttigieg 15%
Bernie Sanders 14%
Joe Biden 10%
Amy Klobuchar 10%
Nobody else even got 5% on this question. It's interesting to think about how this 'second choice' question was interpreted by the people being polled. As VP material? As who they like personally, removing the question of who's "electable" (which I tend to think is another way of saying who you think other people will vote for)? And would the answer to this question change if we actually used ranked-choice voting?
