A map of Brazil with it's city names directly translated into English.

@aronnax: I never knew any of those! That's a cool map  :D

You're right. Wow, I'd forgotten how crappy the V1 map was in the Americas. Looked slightly better in Europe.

River of January makes sense?

I was referring to Boa Vista (Good View), Belo Horizonte (Beautiful Horizon), Recife (Reef), e.t.c. :p

Or perhaps it shows a lack of imagination from Portuguese explorers...

I name this new city... er... er... Great... Camp!

It's most unlike the grand imagination of English explorers who named a whole country after the fact that their Queen haven't yet done the nasty.

Unlike everyone else's city names, Brazilian city names actually make sense. :smug:
Most British place-names make sense. You just have to be able to speak Old English, Old Norse, Old Welsh and Old Irish, and preferably a smattering of Vulgar Latin. :p

Very few people know those languages, but a lot of people speak Portuguese. :p

Also, what other country has a major city called 'Happy Port'? :D

Exactly- they're an elite club! It's not our fault that your geography panders to the riff-raff. :p

I think most countries try to avoid making their cities sound like nautical-themed children's tv shows. :p

What about Manaus?

Warning: The following map makes no sense. At all. There was no thought process behind it, just a bored kid and the paintbucket tool.

Spoilered for HUEG.
