Altered Maps XVI: Gerardus Mercator Must Die

Sorry for being dense - is there a joke somewhere?

No need to apologize. I suppose the joke is that lots of people consider New Jersey (my home state, full disclosure) to be something like the "armpit of the US", so proposing to fix the US by making it all one state, New Jersey, is kind of funny. Other than that it's just sort of generally absurdist/surrealist humor. There are a lot of memes like that where the real joke is laughing at people who try to 'get it.'

Really? I thought that was Florida (lived there three years, can confirm). But going by the shape, perhaps a diseased genital is the better analogy.

Pretty interesting/impressive that over 1/20 of the population of Romania are gypsy.

I dunno, I see Florida getting some heat, but people seem to talk the most smack about NJ.

About 3% a few years ago. But roughly half the Romanian prison population is gypsy.

Of course not, they've got themselves a giant robot.

NJ is just not that known internationally. Florida is a bit more, due to a number of reasons (populous state, source of many weird news, tourist destination, many tv series set there etc)

That sounds like the stereotypes of Essex youths.

Those Jersey Shore cast people are from Staten Island, not Jersey! I WILL NOT ALLOW JERSEY TO BE MALIGNED :deadhorse:

I guess the NJ stereotype has been pushed around the world by reality TV shows and other American shows repeating the stereotype. Whereas the only thing I know about Essex is that.. it's probably a county or something similar (I live in Middlesex county)

Don't forget also that Chris Christie was governor of NJ, and Boardwalk Empire and the Sopranos are set in NJ. That's mostly the reference I thought you were making. New Jerseyans know how to 'fix' things.
