As a citizen of New Zealand on these forums, I thought there may be some people who may have some questions about New Zealand and New Zealanders in general.

I will do my best to answer them.

Were you in The Lord of the Rings movies? If not, do you know anyone that was in The Lord of the Rings movies?

Do you suffer from blood pooling in your head because you are on the wrong side of the world?
Do you have to wear magnetic boots to avoid falling off the earth?:p

I have some questions!

1. Have you walked any of the great walks? Which one is your favourite? (if any)

2. What are your thoughts on the Maori aspect of NZ heritage? When I was there it seemed to me like people embraced local native culture a lot more than in other colonized places, even Canada, almost making it seem like it's a dual anglo-maori culture as opposed to what you see in North America for example - Anglo culture that dominates a native culture.

3. Are the all blacks going to win the world cup?

4. Is the cathedral in Christchurch fixed yet?

5. Is it true that most people who live in Auckland don't explore the rest of the country? It's something I heard especially from south islanders

Mostly in the regional parks around Auckland

I am very proud of Maori traditions and many formal ceremonies bring tears to my eyes because of the solemness of them.
3. Are the all blacks going to win the world cup?
They seem to be on track to do it.
4. Is the cathedral in Christchurch fixed yet?
No. And they are even considering relocating/rebuilding it to another safer part
5. Is it true that most people who live in Auckland don't explore the rest of the country? It's something I heard especially from south islanders
This is true. Most people who live in Auckland find everything they need to entertain themselves here and therefore choose not to explore the rest. Which is a shame. I myself have explored most of the North Island, but to cross the Cook Strait with the car is expensive and needs to be booked in advance so it does not really allow for spontaneous travel to the South Island. However, I have been to Dunedin, Christchurch and Nelson.
Is New Zealand mad at Texas for killing Arthur Lydiard?
No. Life can be cruel sometimes, we understand that.

What is the average price for a small 2 or 3 bedroom home over there? A nice neighborhood and town with a small population. I would love to find a place to retire overseas...

My wife and I are considering the same and have selected Napier (link takes you to listings)

In the Northern Hemisphere the strongest part of a hurricane is the northeast quadrant. Is it the northwest quadrant where you are (since the storms in the southern hemisphere spin clockwise?)

Being from a relatively small country that is also fairly isolated, do you ever feel like your nation is simply not very important internationally? Do you see New Zealand's position as a good or a bad thing?

Looking at the link now. The thing is that my girl, if we do get married... - suggest the Philippines (Bohol, where she is from). But I don't want to live in a place (well I just don't want to live in that climate).

Oh, is there any good ISP over there? LOL everytime I try to hook up with NZ/Aussies in games I play, they always seems to me that they have the most lousiest ISPs in their part of the world. If I am going to be old someday, I don't think there is any chance I will stop being a gamer. :/

We don't get many cyclones in New Zealand. The worst one did hit on the North East in "Bay of Plenty".

A large percentage of NZ'ers have left NZ for this very reason. It is estimated that there are 1 million Kiwis spread around the world. However, many of our Kiwis have done well on the International stage, taking leading roles. e.g. CFO of Microsoft, Head of WTO, Head of UN Development. In addition, taking the America's Cup, was also quite a coup for a little nation no bigger than many of the worlds cities. And our sports people have one many golds and top-level competitions. So it is generally thought we punch above our own weight on the world stage.
Do you see New Zealand's position as a good or a bad thing?
We seem to be weathering the GFC storm quite well considering the Earthquake destroying our second largest city, so our isolation is not causing too many problems. However, our high NZ dollar is causing our exporters some problems but our imports are significantly cheaper because of it. In addition we are a very peaceful and safe nation really, so I would say it is a good thing.

The government has just committed to a multi-billion-dollar plan rolling out fibre to the home nationwide, so in the next few years it will improve. The biggest problem we have is the tyranny of distance to the USA and the rest of the world for latency issues (you can't go faster than light - unless you are a neutrino ;) ). In addition we only have two main paths out of NZ. One via Australia and the other via Fiji, which does not help.

How does New Zealand stack up against the other parts of Australia?
Honestly, from quality of life point of view, we are up there with most of the other states, however salaries are generally higher over there, but houses, and cost of living and taxes are also higher there too.

Will you accept me as an honorary Kiwi on Sunday for the Grand Final?
So long as you support the Auckland Warriors against your city's team of Manly Sea Eagles.
