Brazil's UU: Pracinhas

That's my concern as well. I was hoping for something characteristically Brazilian, rather than Brazil's version of a WWII infantryman. It's redeemable if this FED uu has a very unique ability or play style.

I'm inclined to disappointment, but I'll reserve my full verdict for now.

To me it sounds like a really bland unique unit.
And Brazil didn't even really have a big role in WW2 did they?

Not enough to justify creating a UU in my opinion, and even considering that it was never something "characteristically Brazilian". Now I am just hoping that the UU won't be a late game UU, like the stadium replacement others have mentioned)

Also, considering that firaxis wanted to improve the late game, I am sure this won't be the only late game unit on bnw, which will be disappointing if they don't expand the tech tree or make it "harder" to win the game by other means because I seldom use these late game unit in the current state of the game anyway.

Well they did claim "It used to be that you could coast to victory. But now it is different. Now you need to watch what other empires are doing in the late-game"

Or something to that effect.

Whether it is just marketing talk or whether updated late-game systems will have that much impact, I'm not sure we will know until we can play.

Hmn... I don't know if I really like this... Might as well mod the UU eventually once it comes hehe... Hopefully it is unique enough...

I'll wait to judge it. Infantry are a unit I make alot of once they show up and that's if I play into the modern era.
And I know this expansion is concentrating on the later half of the game... so I might actually play more games to completion. Right now I tend to play the early half of the game until it's obvious I'm controlling things... then never actually finish it. Then start a new one.

A lot of other suggestions are Musketmen and Riflemen replacements, so I see why they went with this. I suspect Brazil isn't a warmonger civ, so it's fine. The bulk of my army will eventually consist of infantry and they do look really cool.

One UB I was expecting was Sambadrome, which could replace Opera house . About its bonus,I was thinking about doubling the :c5culture: yield given by masterpieces in the city,as Marchinhas and Samba-enredos often use historical themes on their parade . It would be a great opportunity for Brazil to enjoy the new mechanic of Great works and it would be great for creating a synergy with Brazil's UA .

Question for the Portuguese speakers: is that a soft c or a hard c? Pra-s-inhas or pra-k-inhas?

I believe it's a soft "c".

I'm not bashing Brazil; it's a problem inherent in choosing a modern New World colonial nation. Which is no doubt one of the reasons why they've never done it before in the history of the series (with the exception of America, which is a special case for obvious reasons).

I think it's cute that they're giving extra information on Poland and Brazil to the Polish and Brazilian news sites. :D

Quick question, since I don't speak Portuguese, is this google translation correct?

"Exclusive to PC, "Brave New World" does not require "Civilization V" original to play"

Exclusivo para PC, "Brave New World" não requer o "Civilization V" original para jogar.

Yes it is correct. UOL Jogos is horrible, we need another source.

But the Pracinhas as the UU is a great choice.

A late game UU for Brazil makes sense, in a way.

Brazil is a comparative newcomer to the world stage after all.

i think it's fine. it's for when you're closing out your cultural victory with a massive golden age and you have to defend against someone trying to close out their domination victory. i'm interested to see what makes it unique though.
