But posts consisting of a single smiley tend to be taken as spam.
This "chairs" thing started, if I remember correctly, either as a joke or a typo when somebody meant to type "10 chars." Then it became "10 chairs" and someone posted 10 smiley-sized kitchen chairs. Later, 10 was lowered to 5.

That's interesting, I didn't know about that character limit workaround. I guess that's one of the effects of putting nothing in the autocensor instead of asterisks or something.
We don't typically do anything to smiley only posts in normal threads anymore, although they could be considered spam in an RD thread. They were treated as spam for a while but I think we stopped doing that in regular threads around the time RD threads were first introduced, before the split.

Somehow, a culture of sensibility happened at CFC. The occasional rofl post is often quite useful. But on other forums it generates a trail of spam. It seems to work out okay here.
