What modern civs are using cavlry today and where can i find graphics for the units?

I don't think any nations have a Dedicated horse Mounted Cavalry Unit anymore, with the exception of China in the 'boonies' of their country. Also, American G.I.s in Afaganistan sometimes use horses as well where Humvees and such can't go.

Lots of modern civs have cavalry, virtually none use horses though.

The mounties are NOT a military force. They are the "Royal Canadian Mounted POLICE"

And YES, China still has Cavalry. I've seen a picture in Time of a Line of PLA soidlers, on horseback, with AK-47s

And YES, the United States GIs in Afganistain sometimes have to use horses. I've already said all this!

And YES, we NEED MODERN CAVALRY!

Central Asian countries, South American countries, Mongolia, and China have large horse cavalries. Also countries in Northern Africa and the Middle East. Most aren't used for battles but instead military operations in mountainous, or rural areas where it's rather difficult to use vehicles.

Hmmm......

I seem to remember this coming up in the "should cavalry upgrade to tanks" thread.

Furthermore, if any of you guys actually READ the sticky "units request thread" that's at the top of this page, I've already put in a request for such a unit. If I have to, I'll start a separate request thread and hope that one of the unit geniuses, like maybe Kinboat or Utahjazz, could make it, since I don't have my unit building capabilities up yet. Although if someone could point me to where I could find some freeware LOW POLY .3DS models, I could use Poser 5 to take a whack at it myself (the current hi-poly models have a bad tendency to cause the program to crash my system)

... Which puts them in the time-honored tradition of the Dragoon. Rifle-armed horsemen -- mounted infantry -- were of course also widely used in the 19th century.

I'd assume any modern cavalry would of course fit in the same mold.

Perhaps we need to break the cavalry line into 2 or 3 -- gunpowder armed and saber/lance/etc., possibly breaking the latter into Heavy and Light.

So a gunpowder progression could be Reiter (pistol armed "caracole" cavalry) => Dragoon => Rifle Armed Cavalry => Modern Cavalry. I'd assume the latter would be fit for any period in which automatic weapons and mortars were commonly available.

Please do either (start a thread or take a whack ;) ). I know I've put in a request for such a unit more than once.

Best,

Oz

I think there might still be some guerillas around the world using cavalry tactics - with horses and camels (atleast I would if I was a guerilla).

... So do you feel like a temporary switch from Gnomish Weapons to modern cavalry? ;)
